10 Liverpool pubs perfect for a festive pint
1 year ago
These Liverpool pubs will definitely warm you up this winter.
Where do we start when choosing our favourite Liverpool pubs? We have so many on our doorstep!
Christmas is here. Meaning there are people to see, things to do, and loads of places to call into for a festive pint.
So whether you’re meeting your mate for a meal or Mum for a Christmas catch-up, here are 10 Liverpool Pubs where you’ll be laughing all the way.
Peter Kavanagh’s
A brilliantly bonkers place to step into Christmas, PK’s is as beautiful now as it was almost 100 years ago.
Choose a seat in the snug, bar or lounge and get stuck into local ales from Liverpool craft and organic breweries for an authentic Liverpool pub experience.
You’ll be singing Elton John with strangers in no time. Until you realise no one really knows the lyrics.
Step into Christmas, dee de de da der. Nananana forever and ever.
The Bridewell
Run by much-loved Liverpool licensees Fiona and Dominic since 2019, the Bridewell is warm, cosy, and the perfect festive pint.
So pull up a pew in an old prison cell and order from their superb range of draught, cask & bottled beers. Then mull over what Christmas was like when Charles Dickens was here as a special constable in 1860.
But remember, Scrooge, it’s your round. We’ll have a Warsteiner.
The Ship & Mitre
If you’re searching for an independent Liverpool Pub this Christmas, follow the star to The Ship & Mitre for a heavenly experience.
After whetting your winter whistle with one of 12 ever-changing hand-pumped beers and ciders, you can order fantastic home-cooked food every day of the week.
Extra Christmas cool points if you catch visiting chefs like One Pan Band and Bao.
There’s also a cracking quiz on Thursdays.
The Railway
Their Insta bio might read ‘Good food, good drink, good company’, but we disagree.
The Railway is excellent on all three counts. And its spot on Tithebarn Street in the business district guarantees a Crimbo buzz. It’s the kind of place you end up staying for hours catching up with your bezzie.
The food’s nice here, you know. Shall we stay for a bit?
Doctor Duncan’s
Nothing says Christmas like a spec in front of an open fireplace overlooking St John’s Gardens. Just one of the reasons why Dr Duncs comes into its own at this time of year.
With fantastic staff who’ve never met a dog they didn’t like, your pooch will feel all Christmassy too.
Being close to The Empire and The Royal Court, you might even bump into The Vivienne or Aston Merrygold after a Wizard of Oz performance.
Ma Boyles
We loved the outdoor seating this summer, but Ma Boyles was built for winter.
Snug but spacious, cosy but cool, this stunning space on the steps of St. Nick’s Church calls you to make a Christmas pilgrimage.
Book early for your 3-course Crimbo dinner. At £33 a pop, they’ll sell out quicker than Barbie’s convertible car.
Thanks for a lovely Christmas, Ma. You’re always there for us.
The Denbigh
The Denbigh is a must-visit all year round, but it’s worth making the extra effort to meet a mate here for one or two at Christmas..
Tucked away on Hackins Hey (between Dale Street and Tithebarn Street) it’s like a present you weren’t expecting. And it’s a gem.
This multi-award winning pub is somewhere you’ll go back to long after the deckies are down.
Ye Cracke
Christmas dinner is nothing without crackers. Christmas bevs are nothing without ‘The Crack’.
A regular haunt of John Lennon and his girlfriend Cynthia when they were at art school, it’s full of atmosphere, free-flowing conversation and festive spirit.
There are always loads of local and craft beers available, so raise your glass and say:
“Another year over. A new one just begun.”
Sounds like Christmas to us.
The Vines
One look at their fantastic new website shows that The Vines is back in business.
Recently refurbed, the legendary big house is a sight to behold. Making it a Christmas bevy must and definitely one of our favourite Liverpool pubs.
Open from midday ‘til 1am Sun-Thurs and ‘til 2.30am Friday and Saturday, it’s a great spot for a late pint.
We can’t wait to see the size of their tree.
Pogue Mahone
Cheeky, charming and unashamedly Irish, Pogue’s isn’t just a Christmas pint; it’s a Christmas party.
There’s live music every night from belter bands like The Mollys and The Bootleggers, and it’s always Guinness o’clock.
We’ll see you there belting out the Pogues an hour after you said you’d be home.
It really is the best time of the year.
