Here come the girls! Merseyside gears up to celebrate women and promote the #BalanceForBetter message.
Calling all Liver Birds, Friday 8th March 2019 is International Women’s Day. A day dedicated to celebrating women and their incredible lives around the globe. The theme for this year is #BalanceForBetter as women strive for gender-quality in the workplace and in society.
Liverpool will be flying the flag for all women on Friday as many businesses, venues and organisations host events of their own. Whether you’re looking to learn from our rich history of amazing women or somewhere to toast your girlfriends after work or maybe even discover a brand new female artist, there’s something for everyone.
Here’s 10 of the top International Women’s Day 2019 events and celebrations in Liverpool……
1 – IWD at National Museums Liverpool
If you’re looking for some female-led inspo on Friday, head into any one of the National Museums and Galleries Liverpool venues for a whole host of free events, talks and celebrations. Katuma Drumming workshops, Girl Footy Fans, Nanny of the Maroons’ story and more. Info here.Â
2 – IWD 2019 Gathering, Frieda Mo’s
Freida Mo’s Vintage Shop, Lark Lane is hosting an International Women’s Day social and you’re invited to raise a glass, grab a bagel, pick up a bargain and donate to the Hygiene Bank collection to help women in need in our local area. More info here.Â

3 – Spice Girls V Destiny’s Child, Camp & Furnace
How about this for the ultimate International Women’s Day mash up? Two of the biggest all-girl groups of all time go head to head to provide the best soundtrack ever! Say you’ll be there at Camp & Furnace for Spice Girls V Destiny’s Child from 8pm. Tickets here.Â
4 – IWD Social, Scrapyard Studios
Scrapyard Studio Liverpool is celebrating all creative females on Friday from 6pm. Expect an evening of performances by female musicians, spoken word poets, speakers and a variety of different artwork on display from local women. Cake, bar and creativity! More here.
5 – SisBis, 24 Kitchen Street
24 Kitchen street, Baltic Triangle has your post-work IWD 2019 celebrations all sorted. From 6pm you can expect music, food and activities until 10pm when the afterparty kicks off til 4am. Strat your weekend the right way! More here.Â
6 – Women of the Western Approaches, Exchange Flags
Did you know that young women from Liverpool played a pivotal part in winning the Battle of the Atlantic. Perhaps one of the city’s finest hidden gems, the Western Approaches is offering a free tour on IWD2019 where you can explore the original underground control room. Info here.Â
7 – Yvonne (Dig Vinyl) DJ Set, Buyers Club
A force to be reckoned with behind the decks, Dig Vinyl’s owner, Yvonne takes on a guest spot from the usual weekly Anti Jazz Night at Buyer’s Club this Friday from 8pm. Rock, psych, folk and everything in between. More here.Â
8 – GRL BNGRZ, Kazimier Garden
It’s free entry into the Kaz Gardens for an all-female line up of DJ’s including Cat Millar from 5pm on Friday. After work drinks sorted. More info here.Â
9 – The Story Teller Social, LIPA
Have you got something to say this IWD? A story to tell, a poem to recite, a song to perform? Head to LIPA from 8pm and share your creative vision with a like-minded, friendly audience and get your voice heard. ÂŁ3 entry and a load of good fun. Info here.Â
10 – International Women’s Day Free Networking, Novotel
The Leading Ladies in Business, Liverpool branch is offering a free networking event for women to come together to chat, learn and make meaningful connections this IWD. Head to Novotel, Hanover Street from 10-12pm to meet a fab group of women intent on breaking glass ceilings. More info here.
