10 Tracks by John Legend to get you in the mood for his Echo Arena gig on Sunday
7 years ago
Yes it’s true there is a real legend coming to town – wonder how many times he’s heard that one! John Legend is en route to Liverpool and he’s bringing his Darkness & Light Tour with him.
Since the release of his first album ‘Get Lifted’ back in 2004, John Legend has become one of the planets best known and most successful musicians working with the likes of Kanye West, Jay Z, Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande and even Lauren Hill (did you know he played piano on her 90’s anthem ‘Everything is Everything’?).
Now five albums in, and having penned one of the biggest hits of the past decade in ‘All Of Me’ he really is at the top of his game and we can’t wait to see him singing with the Scousers on Sunday at our Echo Arena.
Here are 10 tracks to get you in the mood for the arrival of our favourite soul superstar.
All of Me
We had to start with his biggest track to date. This track spent a staggering 93 weeks on the UK chart and was 2014’s third biggest single. Come on we all know the words!
Love Me Now
Taken form his latest album ‘Darkness & Light’ this tuns is surely one of his catchiest to date – we can’t wait to see it live in Liverpool.
Green Light
Back in 2008 John teamed up with Outkast superstar Andre 3000 for this very cool funky little number, nearly ten years on and it still sounds fresh as.
Ordinary People
In our opinion the song that propelled Mr Legend to super-stardom back in 2005. Co-produced by will.i.am, ‘Ordinary People’ bagged John the Grammy Award for Best Male RNB Performance in the same year. Go Legend!
Glory
Another year and another award, this time for the Best Original Song and the 2014 Academy Awards. Glory was the theme to the motion picture ‘Selma’ which of course told the story of Martin Luther King’s Selma to Montgomery civil rights marches.
Let’s Get Lifted
Another belter taken from his debut album ‘Get Lifted’ this is definitely one of John’s catchiest and most recognisable hits. We prey he does it live at our Echo Arena.
Lay Me Down
His first UK number one was a collaboration with UK superstar Sam Smith. We ALL know the words to this one and yes ok it wasn’t John’s hit, but my word did he add to it when it was re released for Comic Relief back in 2015.
Number One
Another anthem taken from the ‘Get Lifted’ album, Kanye West appears and how it never actually got to number one we will never know.
Penthouse Floor
In another single to be taken from his ‘Darkness & Light’ album John teams up with Chance the Rapper. Again how good will this be live!
Beauty & the Beast
Come on we couldn’t not include it, the theme from the highest grossing movie of 2017 and highest grossing live-action musical film of all time had to be included. John teams up with American sweetheart Ariana Grande for this beautiful version of a tale as old as time. Ahhhhh.
