100th City Bike Station launched in Liverpool

Liverpool’s bike sharing scheme has hit a major milestone this week with its 100^th station installed at one of the city’s up and coming districts.

The landmark citybike station can be found within the car park of the Titanic Hotel, in the World Heritage listed Stanley Dock, at the heart of the Ten Streets creativity district.

The new station, which can accommodate 10 citybikes at any one time, connects the district to a vast network of stations across the city with the scheme boasting 500 citybikes.

Situated near to the Regent Road entrance the Ten Streets citybike station provides easy access to the city centre which is less than a 10 minute ride away, with Peel’s emerging £5bn Liverpool Waters scheme within easy reach.

Regent Road is currently undergoing a multi-million pound revamp and will boast a new cycle lane which will eventually connect up a 20 mile route from Otterspool, in the south of the city, to Ainsdale in Sefton.

The roadworks are part of a £100m investment in the road infrastructure surrounding the Ten Streets district, which also includes two new waterfront link roads for the city council’s prosed new Cruise Terminal and Isle of Man Ferry Terminal.

The works are one of the city council’s key highways schemes as part of a wider £500m investment drive to improve Liverpool’s roads.

A new interactive map has been recently launched detailing works for the next 12 months to enable residents and motorists to plan their journeys ahead.

Councillor James Noakes, (pictured above) Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “I’m delighted to see the Ten Streets district is being connected to our citybike network and am grateful to the owners of the Titanic Hotel for agreeing to host this new station.

“There is a growing number of emerging businesses in the district and the ability for business people to hop on to a citybike and be in the city centre inside 10 minutes – and vice versa – is going to be invaluable to those who prefer not to drive.

“Our citybike programme is hugely popular and I look forward to seeing another station or two popping up around the North Liverpool area as this district starts to flourish and the new cycle route along Regent Road becomes operational.”

A citybike station will soon be relocated in to the south of the city centre following the recent completion of a £1.6m upgrade to Park Lane as part of creating a continuous cycle route from Toxteth to the Baltic Triangle,
