Liverpool is home to the oldest Chinese community in Europe so naturally the Chinese restaurants in, and around the city are exceptional.

1 - Lu Ban - Baltic, Stanhope Street

An open-kitchen culinary experience brought to you by Tianjin Master Chef, Dave Critchley, Lu Ban offers an extraordinary depth of flavour you can truly savour, with dishes including The Fisherman – Jasmine and black tea-cured wild salmon with fennel, pomelo and lime; and One Day One Night – Twenty-four hour pork belly with fennel seed, anise, sticky soy and pickled ginger.

Unique dining options include Chef’s table, Wine Room and The Food Lab which invites guests to a fully immersive experience as they explore and experiment with the secret delights of the Lu Ban kitchen.

2 - Chy Chinese Restaurant - Renshaw Street, Lark Lane & South Road, Waterloo

There’s a striking Fine Dining experience waiting for diners at Chy with three conveniently situated venues featuring Chy’s trade-mark contemporary decor paired with the traditional cuisine which guarantees all your favourite Chinese cuisine.

Choose from freshly prepared noodle soups, Chy speciality dishes including the roast duck with char siu and crispy belly pork; or sliced fillet steak cooked with shredded onions and tomatoes in Cantonese Sauce.

3 - Chows Eating House - Parkgate, Wirral

This elegant Chinese eaterie situated on Parkgate Parade is set across two stunning floors featuring an open fire-place, cocktail snug and freshly prepared traditional delicacies including a choice of delicious banquet menus which have entertained visiting dignitaries with dishes such as curried pork samosas; scallops with Chinese vegetables and XO Brandy sauce; and crispy lamb in black bean and chilli sauce served on a sizzling platter.

4 - Yuet Ben - Upper Duke Street

As the oldest Chinese restaurant in the city centre, for over 50 years the Lim family restaurant has welcomed guests including celebrity fans with an authentic menu and signature dishes. You can choose to start with cold smoked fish; pickled rainbow vegetables and dry barbecued spare-rib appetisers. Delicious mains include sweet & sour cherry chicken; Kwota prawns in reduced wine sauce; and sliced duck with bamboo shoots and Chinese mushrooms.

5 - New Orchid Garden - Eaton Road, West Derby

A local favourite, this Cantonese-Chinese fusion restaurant with second floor lounge bar is most famous for the host of speciality banquet menus featuring fragrant, crispy duck and traditional Peking sauce; sliced Cantonese-style fillet steak on a sizzling platter; and baked lobster tail in ginger.

For something a little different, opt for your choice of Hot Pot dishes including fried fish fillet with shredded char siu and vegetables in Oyster Sauce.

6 - Chamber 36 Restaurant and Cocktail Bar - Berry Street

This Oriental Street Food, award-winning cocktail bar and tea house offers a superb selection of contemporary Dim Sum and small plates including baby ribs in sweet tangy Kyoto sauce; grilled shiitake mushrooms with fresh mixed bean salad and mains including honey-roasted pork char sui.

The Lunch & Cocktail pairing menu is especially popular, featuring the Bruce-Lee-Chini – Absolut Vodka, Kwai Feh lychee liqueur with watermelon and lime.

7 - Matou - George’s Parade, Pier Head

A contemporary pan-Asian bar and lounge offering spectacular views across the River Mersey from the second floor of the Ferry Terminal Building.

Matou serves alfresco rooftop sharing platters – including the seafood option of grilled scallops, jumbo prawns, deep-fried king prawn cutlets and calamari with shrimp cocktail. Or for a delicious main try the pan-fried fillet of seabass with chopped shallots on a bed of steamed pak choi – and treat yourself to lemon grass crème brûlée.

8 - Mr Chilli - Seel Street

A favourite among Liverpool’s Chinese community and voted Best Chinese Restaurant at the Asian Restaurant Awards 2018, Mr Chilli specialises in the authentic hot-and-spicy meets sweet-and-sour flavours of Sichuan cuisine from Southwest China, specialising in Chinese Hot Pots and cold cuts. The menu may well be missing your go-to Chinese favourites – but if you like your food hot and are up for finding some new food favourites – Mr Chilli will definitely excite your appetite!

9 - Ying Wah - Woolton Street, Woolton Village

Family owned since 1974, this popular, contemporary restaurant is a local gem, offering an impressive range of dining options including the Dim Sum Mini Combination menu featuring traditional Sui Mai, deep crispy-fried Won Ton and pan-fried Wor Tip dumplings; an entire menu of steak dishes we’ve heard great things about, including spicy Szechwan with fresh green jalapeño, and generous banquets featuring indulgent Chinese cuisine. Meanwhile, repeat diners save a little tummy space for the banana fritters.

10 - Tokyou - Berry Street

This small but perfectly formed speciality noodle bar and restaurant offers a charming but laidback downtown atmosphere with a fresh, tasty main menu serving up delicious Japanese and Chinese cuisine.

The menu includes shredded chilli chicken or salt and pepper squid; quick and easy one-bowl noodle dishes including deep-fried tofu in sweet and sour sauce and Szechuan vegetable noodles; along with a choice of delicious warming noodle soups including a hearty serving of beef brisket.

11 - Tiger Rock Hawker - North John Street & Smithdown Road

Owned by husband and wife duo Vikki and Kean Teh, the foodie favourite offers culinary delights comprising Thai, Chinese, Malaysian, Singaporean, Vietnamese and Laotian dishes in addition to a wide selection of beers, wines and Bellinis to name a few.

Tiger Rock offers the best in Thai food, Chinese, Malaysian, Singaporean, Vietnamese, Laotian dishes served with a twist. To accompany the small plates and bowls, you will find a delicious drinks menu. And if you prefer to go
meat-free, there are vegan options and more importantly Gluten free. Therefore, the menu has something for everyone including kids.

12 - Eastern Diner - Allerton Road

If you are looking for authentic Chinese cuisine with the full banquet experience then this is the place for you. The menu is filled with delicious Chinese food with lots of veggie and vegan options available too and in our opinion, the Eastern Diner serves up the best Sui Mais in the city, and what Scouser doesn’t love Sue Mais?

Best thing is they deliver to your door as well!
