12 Christmas concerts in Liverpool to get you feeling festive

It might only be November – but it’s already beginning to look a lot like Christmas… And it’ll soon be sounding like it too.
There’s nothing like a blast of a carol or a popular festive favourite song to get you in the spirit of things, and there are some cracking Christmas concerts in Liverpool from this month onwards.
Here’s some of our favourites:
Fairytale of New York – Liverpool Empire
Thursday, November 28: 2.30pm and 7.30pm
Imagine a St Patrick’s Day Party – on Christmas Day! It’s billed as the Ultimate Irish-Inspired Christmas Concert, and you can immerse yourself in its culture with singers, musicians and dancers performing all your festive favourites like Driving Home for Christmas, Oh Holy Night and, of course, The Fairytale of New York, along with Irish sing-along classics including The Galway Girl and The Irish Rover.

The Holiday In Concert: Film with Live Orchestra – Liverpool Empire
Saturday, November 30: 2.30pm and 7.30pm
Let’s face it, it just isn’t Christmas until you’ve watched The Holiday, and that live orchestra experience will make it more of an emotional rollercoaster than ever before. Starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Jack Black, the film tells the story of how two women who have never met and live 6,000 miles apart find themselves in exactly the same place. The musical score was written by multi Academy Award and Golden Globe winning composer Hans Zimmer.

Coffee and Carols – Liverpool Cathedral
Tuesday, December 3: 2pm
Gather your mates or your family together because this is just a lovely cosy one to get you all in the mood. You can grab a coffee and a mince pie from the Welsford Bistro and relax while listening to traditional Christmas carols and popular festive songs.

NSPCC Carols by Candlelight – Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King
Tuesday, December 3: 7pm
Supporting the work of the NSPCC, this is a night of carols and community to help make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children this Christmas. Sponsored by Home Bargains, the concert features performances from talented local groups including PopVox, Cantemus At Calday, Wirral Schools’ Concert Band, and Merchant Taylors’ School Choir.

Swing Into Christmas – St George’s Hall
Wednesday, December 4: 7.30pm
Celebrate the festive season in style with the vocalists and instrumentalists from the Down for
the Count Orchestra, as they Swing Into Christmas. They’ll offer their own renditions of festive favourites from the likes of Nat ‘King’ Cole, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and more, with music from a 30-piece orchestra in the stunning surroundings of St George’s Hall.

Clatterbridge Christmas Concert – Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King
Friday, December 6: 7.30pm
This is a celebration of music and art. Join Clatterbridge Cancer Charity at the Cathedral for a festive evening hosted by radio presenter and entertainer Pete Price with performances by mezzo-soprano Kathryn Rudge and world-renowned Wirral artist Emma Rodgers.

LIPA Christmas Concert at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall
Saturday, December 7: 7.30pm
As it gets closer to the big day, give yourself time off from the chaos of Christmas to enjoy an evening of festive classics, carols and seasonal melodies from across the decades performed by students from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA). This annual feel-good, family concert features the LIPA Big Band, strings, choirs, vocalists, and dancers in a great evening of yuletide light entertainment.

Take It To The Floor – Christmas Concert at Liverpool Cathedral
Saturday, December 14: 10am, 11.30am and 1pm
The Take It To The Floor concert is back, and it’s specially designed for young audiences from 0-5 and their families who can join Music in Union for 45 minutes of interactive festive fun, and music performed by a professional classical ensemble.

West End vocalists present a glittering evening of the seasonal songs we all love from Let it Snow to Santa Baby, delivered with a swing by the fabulous full orchestra. Time to start realising it IS the most wonderful time of the year!

Friday, December 20: 7.30pm
Join London Concertante on a jolly journey through the heart-warming and hilarious worlds of the best Christmas films – they’ll all be there from White Christmas and Love Actually, to Home alone, It’s a Wonderful Life, Polar Express, Elf, and more.

Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band – Carols & Capers at Floral Pavilion, New Brighton
Sunday, December 22: 7.30pm
For many a firm fixture of the festive period, the combination of Steeleye Span’s Maddy Prior and The Carnival Band’s offered a unique take on timeless Christmas music ever since they first came together in 1984. This is their Fortieth Anniversary & Farewell Tour 2024 so it’s going to be a belter as they put their stamp on familiar, and not-so-familiar, festive fare.
