12 Things to do this weekend in Liverpool

By Jay Hynd

It’s weekend on and with only two more to go before the big day after this one, it’s time to get out there and get Christmassy.

Jay here with your weekend roundup on where to eat, chill, party and play in the greatest city in the world over the next few days.

For Breakfast:

East River – Allerton Road

Brand new to Allerton Road, East River serves up a delicious selection of brunch items which includes American bagels with… everything! It’s cocktail o’clock all day long too with the likes of the Dude’s Breakfast, Pine & Ginger and classic Espresso Martini waiting to be featured on your Instagram account. Check out their Christmas packages and bottomless deals too.

All the info on the East River Facebook page here.

For Lunch:

Peaberry Coffee – Royal Albert Dock

Fancy a quick bite in the Christmassy surroundings of our Royal Albert Dock Liverpool? This local independent specialist artisan coffee house and kitchen started its life with a venue in Waterloo and their newest addition is Dock side. They serve up stacked sandwiches, breakfast and brunch items, salads and sharing plates, halloumi fingers and more.

Check out the full menu here.

For a laid back tea:

Rudy’s, Castle Street

Rudy’s Pizzeria is brand new to Castle Street and pizza lovers have been flocking there since it opened last month. Daily specials, vegan choices, extra mozzarella, hand crafted cocktails and a really cool, laid back vibe. The Romagnola pizza is a must-try as is the Campana sharing board for starters, carb overload we know, but well worth it. Have a look at the back bar when you are in there too, I’ve already bagsied my seat!

Book your table and choose your pizza here.

For a drink:

Aether – Liverpool ONE

Another new venue, this one taking up residency in the former Tavern on the Green in Chavasse Park. Real intimate surroundings, table service and the perfect Christmas shopping pit stop. It’s the same company that brought us The Alchemist so of course, the cocktails are good. Open late every night and live music too!

Get more info on Aether here.

For a Christmas drink:

Liverpool Christmas Market

We have loads of pop up Christmas bars this year and some of the best can be found at our Liverpool Christmas Market. Grab a hot gin toddy from the Juniper Gin Trailer, a German beer from Rudolph’s Rest or a hot chocolate with baileys at one of the other two festive bars on site. Don’t forget to soak that ale up with a Yorkshire Pudding Wrap though!

For a party:

Alma De Cuba – Seel Street

I went to Alma De Cuba for the first time in ages last weekend and the party was still on form, even after all of these years. Based in the old St. Peter’s Church, that gothic and haunting feel makes this venue what it is. Add to that the incredible roster of DJ’s and live entertainment and your Saturday night out is made. Are you even a Scouser if you haven’t been to Alma?

See what’s on over Christmas at Alma De Cuba here.

For the kids:

Enchanted – Knowsley Safari

You need to take the kids here! Firstly of a day it’s just £20 per car for the actual Safari at the moment. Then as soon as the sun goes down the park is lit up for Enchanted which runs on selected nights up until 23rd December. Light safari, eye catching entertainers, free toasted marshmallows, the fair ground is open until late and you can even meet Santa in his Grotto (if you book quick!). Mulled wine and more for us big kids too! What more could you want for a family festive night out?

Get more info, opening times and more here.

For a Christmas Shop:

Christmas Makers Market – Albert Dock

The Makers Market is packed full of local independent traders and has been that successful this year that it’s back twice this month, this Sunday and again next Sunday. Grab yourself some festive food and fill the stockings of your loved ones whilst also supporting local. Take in the Albert Dock sights afterwards too with a selfie under Liverpool Mountain and a quick Catalonian bite at Lunyalita. Perfect Sunday!

See what else is on this Christmas at Royal Albert Dock Liverpool here.

For a Christmas giggle:

A Christmas Carol – Playhouse Liverpool

We all know the story of Ebeneezer Scrooge and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. But this is ‘A Christmas Carol’ with a twist. Expect plenty of madness and merriment as the team from Spymonkey rejig the Dickens classic to get you giggling over Christmas. Its on now and runs until 12th January.

Tickets available here.

For the dog lovers:

Santa Paws – Baltic Market

Liverpool has gone Christmas Market crazy and every type of shopper has been catered for, even the four legged ones! Santa Paws will bring lots of doggy treats, festive doggy food, accessories and a whole load of barking to Baltic Market this Sunday from 11am. Tuck into the amazing food on offer at Baltic market, grab a Baltic Beer and put a smile on your pooches face for Crimbo.

Head to the Baltic Market website to see what else is on over the next few weeks.

For a St. Helens Spactacle:

Heart of Glass – St Helens Town Hall

This Saturday 5-6.30pm you can see a  dazzling light show made up of 200,000 lumens of light, 8 supersized projectors and over 100,000 images will bring the town hall to life this December, rounding off the 150th anniversary celebrations and St Helens as Borough of Culture. While your there go see our mate Louis Emerick who is appearing as Captain Hook alongside Strictly superstar, Kristina Rihanoff at ST. Helens Theatre Royal, Peter Pan launches on 8 December.

Book tickets for panto here.

For the perfect gig:

Deacon Blue – Echo Arena

If you don’t know every single word to ‘Dignity’ and ‘Real Gone Kid’ then you need to leave Liverpool immediately! No matter how old you are Deacon Blue are a must on any Scosuers playlist and you can see them live at our Echo Arena this Saturday night. I’ve seen them four ties already and never once been disappointed. Get the Greatest Hits on loud and get your tickets booked.

Head to the Echo Arena website for the last available tickets.

So just a few ideas now hat you can get up to this weekend in and around Liverpool. Don’t forget the Knife Angel is shining bright outside Liverpool Cathedral and you can watch more about that here. Plus if it’s just a chilled weekend in and you want something to listen to head this way for 10 tracks from Liverpool artists you need in your ears!

Have a great weekend, and thanks again for checking in with The Guide Liverpool. Jay x
