A brilliantly bonkers place to step into Christmas, PK’s is as beautiful now as it was almost 100 years ago. 

Choose a seat in the snug, bar or lounge and get stuck into local ales from Liverpool craft and organic breweries for an authentic Liverpool pub experience.

You’ll be singing Elton John with strangers in no time. Until you realise no one really knows the lyrics.

Ma Egerton’s Stage Door 

Built in 1846, Ma Egerton’s Stage Door is named after the pub’s longest-serving landlady – and friend to the stars – Mary Egerton.

This legendary drinking haunt is famous for fine ales, wines, spirits, and the warmest of welcomes. It’s the ideal spot to catch up before seeing Aladdin at The Empire next door. 

You should defo fill your face with rustic homemade pizza from Ma’s Old Fashioned Pizza Shop before the show. 

Ma’s is open from 11 am to midnight, seven days a week. It’s a whole new world.

The Bridewell

Run by much-loved Liverpool licensees Fiona and Dominic since 2019, the Bridewell is warm, cosy, and the perfect festive pint. 

So pull up a pew in an old prison cell and order from their superb range of draught, cask & bottled beers. Then mull over what Christmas was like when Charles Dickens was here as a special constable in 1860. 

But remember, Scrooge, it’s your round. We’ll have a Warsteiner.

Poste House 

According to its Facebook page, ‘The Postie’ is known for having the best staff around, cheap drinks, and being one of the city’s oldest pubs. 

How many more reasons do you need to call in? Okay, we’ll give you three. 

1 – The Biscoff martinis are back for Christmas

2 – Along with new strawberry cheesecake martinis 

3 – It’s 4 for £10 on bottles of San Miguel, Coors Light and Becks

The Old Bank 

Within walking distance of James Street station, The Old Bank is the perfect place to kickstart your night. 

A cracking selection of draught lagers, big booths, live sports and top acoustic musicians make it a festive all-rounder.

The Railway is excellent on all three counts. And its spot on Tithebarn Street in the business district guarantees a Crimbo buzz. It’s the kind of place you end up staying for hours catching up with your bezzie.

Tucked away on Hackins Hey (between Dale Street and Tithebarn Street) it’s like a present you weren’t expecting. And it’s a gem. 

This multi-award winning pub is somewhere you’ll go back to long after the deckies are down.

Ye Cracke 

Christmas dinner is nothing without crackers. Christmas bevs are nothing without ‘The Crack’. 

A regular haunt of John Lennon and his girlfriend Cynthia when they were at art school, it’s full of atmosphere, free-flowing conversation and festive spirit. 

There are always loads of local and craft beers available, so raise your glass and say:

Recently refurbed, the legendary big house is a sight to behold. Making it a Christmas bevy must and definitely one of our favourite Liverpool pubs.

Open from midday ‘til 1am Sun-Thurs and ‘til 2.30am Friday and Saturday, it’s a great spot for a late pint.

A relative newcomer compared to the rest of the list, Lime Street Central nevertheless deserves its place.

The food is fab, the drinks flow freely, and, with loads of board games to choose from in the spacious bar, it feels like a family get-together.

Pogue Mahone

Cheeky, charming and unashamedly Irish, Pogue’s isn’t just a Christmas pint; it’s a Christmas party. 

There’s live music every night from belter bands like The Mollys and The Bootleggers, and it’s always Guinness o’clock. 

We’ll see you there belting out the Pogues an hour after you said you’d be home. 

It really is the best time of the year.
