A brand new production of Shakespeare’s greatest tragic love story with a roaring 1920s twist is opening in Liverpool
Director Laura J Harris and her company of actors will present Romeo & Juliet at St Georges Hall on Saturday, 2nd and Sunday, 3rd July 2016.
Join the cast and crew in the stunning surroundings of St Georges’ grand Concert Hall for an evening not to be missed!
This ‘Guns and Gangsters’ prohibition era spin on the classic tale of two star crossed lovers will see the Chalice gang transforming the Concert Hall into a Capulet-owned Speakeasy.
Romeo & Juliet is Chalice Media’s third production in a season of classic Shakespeare plays taking place at St George’s Hall to mark the 400th Anniversary of the Bard’s death.
Appropriately entitled, Where There’s a Will, the season features four of The Bard’s most popular plays which are being staged in the stunning Concert Room at the iconic venue.
The series was launched in April with a highly successful performance of Macbeth, which was followed by a Steampunk adaptation of William Shakespeare’s famous tragi-comedy, The Tempest.
And now, fans of The Bard can look forward to a unique take on one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays starring Matt Lacey as Romeo and Alice Wyatt as Juliet.
Laura commented: “This is an incredible opportunity to experience Shakespeare’s master storytelling a very intimate and visceral way. Definitely a date for the calendar!”
Alan Smith, General Manager of St George’s Hall Liverpool, added: “St George’s Hall is delighted to be able to work with Chalice productions to mark the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death. The first two productions have been amazing and we’re sure that the audience will fall in love with Romeo & Juliet.
“It also gives us a magnificent opportunity to animate the ornate concert room in a new and dynamic way. The various spaces, alcoves and recesses in the Hall easily accommodate the wide and diverse characters of Shakespeare and provide a fitting location for any Shakespearean scene.”
Following Romeo & Juliet, Chalice Media will present their final production Much Ado About Nothing from 3rd to 5th August.
Due to the short run of the performances and Chalice’s previous triumphs, tickets are likely to be in high demand so book early to avoid disappointment! Tickets are now on sale from Ticketquarter.
