5 places perfect to visit on a rainy day in Liverpool

By Chris Grundy

It’s already starting to feel like the heatwaves we had this year are a distant memory.

So as the weather begins to take a turn for the worse, you could find yourself stuck in the middle of a torrential downpour. Instead of hiding under a shops doorway – get yourself to one of these destinations, dry off, warm up, and wait for it all to pass over.

Rococo Coffee – Lord Street

Liverpool

Probably one of the most cosy cafe’s in Liverpool, it is also the biggest. 4 rooms filled with squashy couches, the smell of cake, fresh sandwiches and great coffee in the air. These guys serve up great food & drinks, perfect to wait-out the drizzle outside.

Museum of Liverpool – Waterfront

Liverpool

Caught around the docks with no where to go? Look no further than the Museum of Liverpool. All of Liverpool’s museums are free to the public, and this one is great to learn all about our history as a city. The Little Liverpool room is great for the kids, so check the time slots when you arrive, and you can have a wander round until its time to have some fun.

Pippin’s Corner  – Lark Lane

Liverpool

Leg it down The Lane when it’s lashing down and jump into Pippin’s Corner. Seriously pimped up hot chocolates await you in this cosy cafe/bistro, along with great food and coffee. They’re dog friendly so if you get caught in the rain and your pooch needs some shelter, get them a pup cup while they’re waiting for the rain to go off.

Everyman Cinema – Metquarter (Victoria St. entrance)

Liverpool

The “other” Everyman is the perfect spot to warm yourself up and keep dry. Don’t forget to make sure you check the showtimes. They have comfy couch-style seating, great American style food, boss shakes, and even serve up booze – cocktails the lot! The food and drinks are brought to your seat before the movie starts so you don’t have to worry about dropping your popcorn en route to the screen.

Liverpool Central Library – William Brown Street

Liverpool

Credit: Central Library

The Library is a beautifully remodelled building, it is stunning inside! Go and check out the rare books housed in the magnificent Horny Library and Oak Room. You can look at rare and unique archives from the 13th century to present day which will tell you Liverpool’s story. You could even just grab a book, take a seat, and lose yourself in a good story… then take it home to finish it off.
