5 Things we love about Scouse GBBO finalist Kate Lyon
7 years ago
If you are as #GBBO obsessed as we are you will be beaming with pride that we have a Scouse FINALIST!!
The Great British Bake Off Gods have been kind this year and blessed the nations TV screens with two excellent Merseyside bakers.
Although we were heartbroken to see the epic Flo go home on week 2, (Paul Hollywood, how could you?) we are made up to be cheering Kate on right to the final!
Kate Lyon, a Health and Safety Inspector, grows her own veg and bakes up a storm in her Knowsley home. She’s had a highs and lows in the iconic Bake Off tent with a star baker award one week to an emergency visit from the medics a few weeks later. Here are our 5 fave things about our Kate:
1. THE Toffee Apple Cake
Prue Leith hailed it was the “best cake she’d ever eaten” and even the usually grumpy Paul Hollywood was impressed. Kate says she makes this cake each Bonfire night so feel free to invite us this year, yeah?
2. Her love of Flo
As Knowsley and Huyton neighbours Kate and Flo were always going to be BFFs, two girls sticking together. But it has us thinking, is there some kind of baking genius in the water around East Liverpool? We all missed Flo after she left so Flo, if your looking for any extra grandkids we’d love you as our Nan!
3. How effortlessly chic and sassy she is
Every week she brings the glam to the tent, her lippy never shifts and there’s never a hair out of place in that stress & cake filled tent. A true Scouse Bird! But sadly, our Kate has received a few tweets from miserable people out there, however being a scouser she’s not taking any rubbish from anyone! Always first to reply with a witty comeback, she’s a strong woman who’s holding her own
4. She baked a cake with the LIVER BIRDS on top
Does it get anymore Scouse than that? No, it doesn’t. In the “Bakes that time forgot” week she was tasked with baking a traditional centrepiece where she baked our beloved Liver Building Clocktower, incredible!
5. Three words: “Prosecco Choux Bun”
We were genuinely drooling at the thought of these! Kate’s semi final signature bake featured our favourite tipple inside a delicious choux bun.
The Great British Bake Off 2017 FINAL is on Channel 4 on Tuesday 31st October at 8pm. Tune in and cheer our fellow scouser on! Kate, whatever the outcome, we are all so proud! (and if you’ve got any spare cakes feel free to pop them into The Guide Liverpool office!)
