5 Unmissable Indie Rockers heading to LIMF 2017

It’s just a couple of days until LIMF 2017 kicks off an entire weekend of music and good times at Sefton Park and today we’re lining up the the indie rockers.

Whether you’re into pop, dance, garage, soul, rnb or some good old fashioned folk there’s a beat for you at this years Liverpool International Music Festival and there’s more stages and genres to check out than you can shake a glow stick at!

Here’s 5 top indie bands and artists to check out at LIMF 2017…

1 – She Drew The Gun, Sunday 17:20, It’s Liverpool Stage

Something of a cult favourite, She Drew The Gun returns to the city to wow crowds with their raw and naturally captivating set. Having released their debut record this year, the band have a busy schedule of festivals throughout the summer as well as having recently supported Travis at Silverstone. You can expect a raucous affair when frequenting the It’s Liverpool Stage on the Sunday as their Alt-Indie sound bounces around the Park.

2 – The Tea Street Band, Sunday 18:20, t’s Liverpool Stage

The Tea Street Band describes themselves as “Alternative, Electro Dance, House, Guitar-Pop”…thanks guys. No matter where you think they lie on that spectrum, the 4-piece have caused Twitter storms and sweaty dance floors around the country. The last year has seen band touring with Inspiral Carpets, Jimi Goodwin from The Doves as well as playing shows with The Charlatans. They are also no strangers to main stage slots at British Festivals, with LIMF being the latest stage to turn into one of those sweaty dance floors.

3 – Paris Youth Foundation, Saturday 14:50, It’s Liverpool Stage

For Paris Youth Foundation, starting a band was a zero to sixty ascent they can still hardly believe. Uploading first song ‘If You Wanna’ to Soundcloud and a fortnight later finding themselves playing their first show at Reading Festival. Since then they have not stopped, heading out on numerous tours and playing the festival circuit extensively. Their last release, Missing The Mark, is their most mature to date showing the effect that the step-up to the national industry, has had on them. Combine this with the experiences gained on the road and you’re in for one hell of a show, and then some!

4 – Sugarmen, Saturday 17:00, It’s Liverpool Stage

Sugarmen are not just another Liverpool band. Their sound owes as much to New York of the 1970’s as is does to Liverpool today. Their musical education has come from a love of New York’s post punk movement, Glasgow’s Postcard Records and bands such as the Buzzcocks. But they are not a retro band. They mix their influences with a sound that is very much 2017.  Edgy, razored guitars fight with a bass player who no one has told his guitar only has 4 stings. All this is driven by a drums straight out of 1978.

5 – Weekend Wars, Sunday 15:20, The Academy Stage

Formed in late 2015, Weekend Wars challenge the notion that Northern guitar bands come with hubris and swagger, Weekend Wars are refreshingly attitude free. In 2016, with their first three singles, the band received continued support from Dave Monks at BBC Introducing Merseyside, airplay and plaudits from 6 Music (Steve Lamacq and 6 Music Recommends), BBC Radio Scotland (Billy Sloan), Virgin Radio (Jon Jackson) as well as international exposure by being playlisted by Spotify Australia and New Zealand. We recently caught them performing at the Liverpool Noise fundraiser this month and were blown away by the energy on the stage, so they’ll definitely be expecting the same from their festival crowd.
