6 fantastic festive events happening at Unity Theatre this Christmas

Unity Theatre is all ready for Christmas and that means there’s a whole festival of fantastic festive events happening in the run-up to the big day, on and off stage.

Christmas is all about shopping, partying and most of all spending time with friends and family, and the Unity Theatre has all that – with bells on!

So here are six dates to get in your diary and get down to Hope Place for during December …

Unity Night Market – Saturday December 3

Unity Theatre

The Christmas Night Market is back by popular demand, it’s even bigger than before and it’s still free! Unity is transforming into a Winter Wonderland for one night only, bringing together local artists, businesses, creatives, musicians and chefs so you can get pick up great original gifts and have a fun night while you’re at it.  There’ll be makers selling prints, clothes, homeware, food, drink, jewellery, spirits, skincare and more, plus live music and DJs, food stalls and drinks from local brands including Love Lane, 92 Degrees, Neptune and Big Bog Gin. On from 5.30pm to 10pm.

Creatives Christmas Party – Thursday December 8

Unity Theatre

Liverpool is absolutely packed with creative talent and this is their chance to come together at Christmas and celebrate. Everyone who works in the creative or cultural industries in the city – either with an organisation or freelance – is welcome to come along, raise a glass with a mulled drink and enjoy a night of live music. Unity is committed to supporting Liverpool’s creative community so the party’s free, although guests are asked to bring along a foodbank donation if they can. On from 7pm to 9.30pm, with the live band at 7.30pm and raffle 8.30-9pm.

Freezin’ – Monday December 12

Unity Theatre

As part of Unity’s Christmas Festival programme, Merseyside-based company RAWD – which champions and gives a voice to disabled artists – will be staging its first public performance. Never mind Frozen, RAWD’s Freezin’ tells the chilly tale of three ice queens who put a curse on the land. Expect a show full of adventure, wintry magic and true love that’s a guaranteed heartwarmer. On from 7.30pm, for a captioned performance.

Youth Theatre Winter Sharing – Tuesday December 13

Young talent always has a spotlight at the Unity and this night is an opportunity for the amazing members of 20 Stories High Youth Theatre to showcase their skills in front of family and friends. Working with Unity’s new associate director Ameera Conrad and special guests, they’ll be sharing the short pieces, poetry, music and songs they’ve created over the past few months. On from 7.30pm, free for invited guests.

Christmas Quiz – Thursday December 15

Unity Theatre

Who doesn’t love a bit of quizzing at Christmas, especially when there’s prizes up for grabs? As part of the Creative ‘Pool events, two groups – queer creatives and producers – will be getting together for a joint pre-Christmas social and to put their knowledge to the test. Teams can have up to six players and there’ll be prizes for each round rather than an overall one which means more chances to win. On from 6pm, free for Creative ‘Pool members.

Twas’ The Gig Before Christmas – Saturday December 17

Get the whole family in the Christmas mood with this all-singing, all-dancing, full-of-laughs festive treat of a show. Join Yemi Bolatiwa and her band, and all kinds of magical creatures, in the theatre for a unique Christmas concert in the company of Diana Frost and The Arctic Funkees, and storyteller and MC Maximilian Cranberry. There are two shows, at 11am and 2pm, ideal for all the family, especially little ones under 10.
