6 reasons to see Disney’s Aladdin at the Liverpool Empire
1 month ago
We’ve seen loads of star-studded shows and stunning performances at the Liverpool Empire, but one of the most dazzling theatrical productions so far is heading to Lime Street this week.
Disney’s Aladdin is on from this Wednesday, December 11 until Sunday, January 5, and if you’ve not already flown to the box office to book your tickets, here’s 6 reasons why you need to see it.
Classic Disney
The show’s based on the 1992 Disney classic film starring the legendary Robin Williams and tells the familiar story of street urchin Aladdin who finds a magic lamp with a larger-than-life genie who helps change his life forever. It’s got all the ingredients of a great tale, with lots of humour, drama and of course – spoiler alert – a happy ever after.
You’ll be made up with the magic
With a genie at the core of the storyline you’d expect a bit of magic, but it’s jam-packed with spectacular illusions that’ll leave you in awe. Every time the genie comes on stage there are some superb surprises, and don’t forget the iconic carpet ride scene where Aladdin and Princess Jasmine actually look like they’re taking flight. Quick costume changes, and plenty of smoke and flashes of light, and this really is magic!
Award-winning music
You can sing along! As well as new music like Proud of Your Boy and High Adventure, it features all the award-winning smash-hit songs by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Tim Rice like Friend Like Me, A Whole New World, One Jump Ahead, Prince Ali, and Arabian Nights.
Dazzling sets
Get ready to embrace a whole new world with stunning scenery that’s as glittery as it’s colourful, especially in the royal palace and cave scenes. Nothing is simple with Disney, and in this superb stage show it’s evident the designers have gone into overdrive with the finest details to create a feast for the eyes as well as the ears.
Sparkling costumes
Imagine a whole series of Strictly packed into one show and you might get an idea of how many sequins, gems and jewels are involved in the Aladdin costumes that’ll leave you simply dazzled. The wardrobe staff must need to wear sunglasses.
Family fun
With an easy-to-follow storyline, lots of laughs and even some slapstick humour, this is one for all the family to enjoy which is always a winner at this time of year. There’s fantastic choreography and a fabulous cast and, while this light-hearted show doesn’t take itself too seriously, entertaining the audience is very much the aim of the game. And it wins hands down!
