Advertorial
There’s a Wonderland of fabulous adventures for all ages to go on at the Playhouse this summer with a brand-new version of an all-time favourite.
Alice in Wonderland is a song-packed remix of the Lewis Carroll classic that takes the characters and story everyone loves, brings it bang up to date and adds fresh twists and now a new version of the story is coming to the Playhouse Theatre.
It runs from July 4 to July 22, so there’s plenty of time to jump down the Rabbit Hole and join in the fun.
To make sure you’re not late for a very important date, here are 6 reasons to see Alice in Wonderland …
This is Alice in Wonderland as you’ve never seen it before
Think again if you thought you knew everything there is to know about Alice and the fantasy land she falls into because this production has so much more. For a start Alice, her mum and little brother live in Liverpool, and the family is adjusting to life after losing Alice’s musician dad. She’s a tech-savvy 15-year-old who’s funny and, like most teenagers, absolutely loves music. Her adventures begin when she tries to fix her dad’s old stereo, the screwdriver slips and she’s thrown into a whole new magical world where she meets up with some unexpected friends who help her on her journey.
It’s full of fantastic original music
If you like shows with lots of original pop songs that are still in your head as you’re leaving the theatre then this Alice in Wonderland is for you. And there are plenty of opportunities to sing and dance during the performance itself too! The cast is made up of multi-talented actor-musicians so there’s always a huge infectious energy that’ll have you up on your feet and singing along. The songs are byVikki Stone who’s a stand-up comedian as well so they’re not just poppy, they’ll make you laugh.
Even though it’s a remix, you’ll recognise the characters
This Alice takes inspiration from everything from Pixar films, The Wizard of Oz and stage musicals to 80s and 90s cartoons but there are still lots of well-known characters in there. Look out for the selfish Queen of Charts, the Queen of Clubz, Bez the Cheshire Cat, Tweedledum and Tweedledee who are the Fast Forward and Rewind controls from the old stereo, and the Dad Hatter.
It’s from the team behind the Everyman rock and roll panto
The Everyman’s rock and roll panto is legendary, it’s been the Christmas must see in Liverpool for decades, and this Alice in Wonderland is being staged by the same producers who’ve helped make it such a hit. Alice is also played by Paislie Reid who starred in the Everyman’s record-breaking Red Riding Hood last Christmas.
It’ll appeal to the whole family
This production is genuinely made for all ages, whether it’s kids’ first time at the theatre, parents and grandparents, it’s something everyone can enjoy together. It’s like a cross between a gig and a panto, which sounds like a great combination, and the story and songs have got a massive feelgood factor so you’re sure to come home with a big smile on your face.
It runs through July so it’s the perfect summer treat
With songs, laughs, and some amazing larger-than-life characters, Alice in Wonderland at the Playhouse Theatre feels like a fun-filled fantastic holiday from real life – and there are lots of afternoon matinees right the way though the run as well as evening shows so it easily could be a daytime trip.
