October is here and it’s time to start decking out your home for Halloween.
The centrepiece of your seasonal celebrations must be a good pumpkin and picking it can also be a fun outing for you and all the family.
Here are seven of the best places to pick a pumpkin in and around Merseyside.
Goredale Garden Centre, Chester High Road, Burton, Wirral

Set off on an adventure in search of the hidden pumpkins on the Pumpkin Patch Trail, once you discover the secret code word, you’ll be granted access to the Pumpkin Patch, where you can select your favourite pumpkin to take home.
It costs £4.50 per child and that includes a trail sheet. Open from 18 – 31 October.
Pumpkin Patch Trail is available every day until 5pm. The garden centre is open from 9am, Monday – Saturday and from 11am on Sunday.

Claremont Farm, Wirral

Claremont Farm pick your own pumpkins open on 3rd October at 10am and picking will continue until they are all gone.
Free entry, and you pay by weight for the pumpkins you pick, or individually for mini gourds.
And after all that hard work picking enjoy a hot or cold drink and something to eat in the gorgeous Claremont café.

Pumpkin Alley, Downholland, West Lancashire

Kids can jump on the pumpkin express mini train at this pick your own patch near Ormskirk.
Open now until 31 October, 10am – 5pm daily, entry is free and dogs on leads are welcome.

The Pumpkin Patch, Hightown

One of the biggest and best patches in the region, Hightown opens its fields on 1 October this year.
Open from 9am-6pm every day until 31 October. There is no booking required and no entry fee.
There is also a five-acre maze for everyone to enjoy once your pumpkin picking is done and you can pick your own sweetcorn.
Card or cash is accepted, there is an ice cream van, picnic area and an artisan tent at the weekend.

Rainfords, St Helens

Rainford’s have planted more than 75,000 pumpkin of various varieties for 2025 so there will be so much to choose from when you go pumpkin picking here.
The pumpkin fields do not require you to book in advance, you don’t need a ticket – simply turn up
The fields are open now and pumpkins are charged according to size. Open 10am-5pm.Closes 4pm on Sundays.

Church View Farm – Lydiate

Open from 4 October, pumpkin picking is back this year until 31 October at this friendly, family run farm.
There are also fairground rides, ice cream, hot and cold food and a farm shop.
There is no admission fee, parking is free and you don’t need to book.
Open daily from 10am-4pm until 31 October.

Vineyard Farm Shop – Bebington

Pumpkin picking is on now until 31st October, or until they have all gone.
No need to book and no entry charge, pay for what you pick.
Once again, the Grims will be guarding the entrance to the field behind the spooky barn.
Card or cash payment is accepted and well-behaved dogs are welcome. Open 10am-5pm daily.
