It’s a big month for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic as they’ve just been named Liverpool BID Company’s Business of the Month for July – and with a packed programme of music, events, and community projects, it’s easy to see why.

Vanessa Reed, CEO of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, said:
“We are delighted to have been selected. It’s an exciting time here at Liverpool Philharmonic as we look forward to our new season of concerts and events kicking off in September.”

One of the standout dates to mark in your diary is their Open Day on Sunday 28 September, which lands during the brand new Hope Street Blend festival. Expect a packed day of free performances inside the iconic Philharmonic Hall – from the orchestra itself and local partner organisations – plus a special appearance from Liverpool pianist Brad Kella, performing alongside members of the Youth Orchestra.

Vanessa added: “I’m looking forward to meeting everyone there – especially as I’m still new to the role!”

Here’s why the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic is well worth a visit all year round:

1. Hear the city’s world-class orchestra live
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the best in the business, known across the globe for its talent and ambition. You can catch them live in Liverpool throughout the year, hear them at the BBC Proms in August, or stream their award-winning recordings on Spotify, played by almost a million listeners annually.

2. Nights out with something for everyone
The Philharmonic puts on more than 400 gigs a year, with a programme that mixes classical with pop culture. Think Elvis and The Beach Boys orchestral tributes, video game music concerts, festive nights with drag star Danny Beard, or Jurassic Park on the big screen with a live soundtrack. Family events like Halloween Spooktacular and under-5s concerts mean it’s fun for all ages. You can also make a night of it with pre-show drinks or dinner in the stylish 1840 Lounge.

3. Shining a spotlight on new talent
Music Room 10 is a two-week festival in October celebrating a decade of supporting grassroots music. This year’s line-up features local favourites like Ian Prowse, Kathryn Williams, and Baked a la Ska with their ska-style Beatles covers, alongside rising stars Ellis Murphy, Astles, MT Jones and Motel Sundown.

4. Championing Liverpool’s music scene
The Philharmonic is right at the heart of the city’s music community, working with brilliant local organisations like Africa Oyé, Pagoda Arts, Luma Creations and the University of Liverpool’s Tung Auditorium. It’s also home to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir, bringing together voices from across Merseyside.

5. Deep roots and fresh ideas
The Philharmonic is one of the world’s oldest music societies, but it’s always looking forward. From youth orchestras to commissioning new work and creating new opportunities for emerging talent, it’s helping to shape the future of music in Liverpool.

6. Music that makes a difference
In Harmony Liverpool Youth takes music directly into communities in Everton and Anfield, while the Music and Health Programme works with NHS partners to deliver music-based care to thousands. More than 60,000 young people take part in these programmes every year, with more than 300,000 benefiting through wider performance and engagement.

7. The audiences love it
Visitors describe it as one of Liverpool’s best nights out: “It’s a beautiful building with great staff” and “my favourite venue – the overall experience never fails to be an excellent night.”

Whether you’re heading to a blockbuster film night, a chilled evening of jazz, or seeing the orchestra in full force, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic is a must-visit. And with their Open Day and Hope Street Blend coming up in September, there’s never been a better time to check it out.
