7 reasons why you should check out new Birkdale restaurant Penelope’s on the Park

Penelope’s on the Park is the stunning new restaurant and bar that opened in Birkdale this month and is already fully booked until the middle of July.

The sister venue of the equally poplar Emily’s in Formby, the hotly anticipated new hangout boasts a breath taking roof and all the Instagramable features you’d expect.

It sits on the edge of Victoria Park, which is the venue for the Southport Flower Show.

But Penelope’s on the Park isn’t a case of all style over substance. The menu is already proving popular with diners, as is its cocktail menu.

Diners are raving about the food on offer, with one saying: “I had one of the best fillets for a long time on Friday evening. Cooked rare to perfection for me.” Another commented: “The barramundi was exceptional.”

Here are seven reasons why you should visit Penelope’s on the Park.

Get a pizza the action

Whether it’s pepperoni and hot honey burrata, chicken parma or roasted pumpkin and pesto, there is a pizza to suit all tastes at Penelope’s.

The Holy Chow features a prawn base with soy and chilli oil dressing, spring onion, fresh chilli, and coriander. It is also a play on the former name of this historic restaurant business, Ho Lee Chow which was a regular hangout of the footballers who lived in the area in the 1980s and 90s. The is a classy nod to the past which we love.

Devour a summer salad

Salads are a summer staple. They don’t have to be boring, and they certainly aren’t at Penelope’s.

From a classic Caesar to grilled chorizo, or roasted pear and Tuscan ham, there are some impossible choices to be made. 

There are also classic side salads to accompany dishes on the main menu. 

Enjoy Seafood near the sea

Penelope’s location on Rotten Row is a short walk to the seaside, so why not indulge in a fish dish when you are there?

You can pick from sea bass with steamed ginger, grilled barramundi fillet and grilled monkfish tail.

There is also a mouth watering king prawn and chorizo pasta mafalde dish on the menu.

Tuck into Mike’s famous 100 Layer Lasagne

Executive chef Mike Hendren is very proud of this lasagna dish.

It features slow braised beef shin ragu, layered with béchamel and mozzarella, served with Napoli sauce and parmesan.

It is available every day from 1pm and we think it is going to prove to be very popular indeed.

Sample a brilliant brunch

Whether it is a full breakfast, a plant based option, truffled scrambled eggs or yoghurt with fruit and granola, brunch is the best way to start the day at Penelope’s.

There is also a selection of pancakes and French toast if you really want to indulge a sweet tooth.

Anyone who has visited Emily’s in Formby will know it’s the perfect place for a gorgeous shot for your socials.

Sister venue Penelope’s is definitely giving it a run for its money.
