Seven Summer half-term days out you can have across Liverpool City Region
2 years ago
The end of May bank holiday and school half term are just around the corner.
It might feel like the Easter holidays have only just finished but for parents everywhere it’s time to start thinking about things to do for the kids – again, and the Liverpool City Region has plenty on offer to help you out.
Here are seven of the best family days out in Knowsley, Sefton and across the Liverpool City Region to enjoy this half term:
A beach walk and picnic
If the weather is good, what better way to keep the kids occupied than a trip to one of the many gorgeous beaches on the Sefton coast?
Formby gets very crowded so we would recommend getting the train if you’re heading in that direction. Freshfield station is just a short walk from the beach and there are two good local cafes for refreshments and some of the best fish and chips in Merseyside at The Good Catch.
Even better, make your way to the quiet golden stretches at Hightown, or between Formby and Ainsdale where you can also enjoy a woodland walk as well as the beach.
Pack a picnic but remember to take your rubbish home with you. These are areas of real natural beauty and some rare wildlife.
And of course, if you make your way to Crosby beach you can enjoy the majestic iron men of Another Place, the beach front installation by acclaimed artist Antony Gormley, before stopping in at the Lake House, Waterloo, for lunch or a drink with a view.
Acorn Farm
Meet some newly arrived piglets and all the other animals that inhabit this farm park in Depot Road, Kirkby.
Acorn Farm offers small animal petting and pony rides. Kids also get the chance to see a real working farm in action. There is also a woodland walk and two outdoor play areas.
See the website for more information and ticket prices.
Knowsley Safari
A Seaside Carnival is heading to Knowsley Safari this half term. There will be acrobatic skills workshops, pier themed game stalls, traditional performers and sand. All included in the regular entry price to the park.
Between 11am and 4pm each there will also be nostalgia in the shape of a coconut shy, bottle ring toss, and ball in a bucket games.
The carnival activities will be included in the general admission price for Knowsley Safari which means you can also enjoy the Safari Drive and Foot Safari with the chance to see giraffe, African lions and white rhino among other animals.

Martin Mere Wetland Centre
There’s lots of fun for all the family at Martin Mere Wetland Centre in Burscough, West Lancashire.
You can reimagine the wonder of nature through the eyes of illustrator Quentin Blake, collecting an illustrated guide as you wander the wetlands, take part in the Martin Mere big drawings, or the kids can join an art workshop. All this on top of seeing the wonderful wildlife that inhabits this very special corner of the countryside.
