7 things to do with the kids on Merseyside this weekend

With yet another half term break looming, we’ve put together some boredom busting ideas to check out with the kids this weekend and beyond.

There’s bank holiday weekend and half term to come later this month and there’s only so many days you can spend in the park with this unpredictable weather! Luckily for parents and guardians across the North West, there’s a brilliant line up of entertainment happening this weekend and beyond for you to check out with your little dudes.

From family-friendly acid raves (seriously) to gaming competitions, rediscovering Albert Dock and watersports actually in the dock, there’s something for everyone! Here’s 7 things to do with the kids this weekend and beyond.

1 – LightNight, City Wide

Grab a quick bite to eat after school this Friday (19th May) and get into town to experience LightNight 2017. With more than 100 events taking place, all of which are free and tonnes are geared towards families, you can get elbow deep in clay, take on a gaming challenge, and glue and craft until your little hearts are content! All the info here.

2 – Liverpool Watersports Centre, Mariners Wharf

Fresh from winning ‘Best Small Visitor Attraction’ at the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards 2017, the Liverpool Watersports Centre, Mariners Wharf invites you and the kids to have some hilarious fun on the water. Just look at that assault course! With water trampolines, paddle boarding, sailing, windsurfing and many more activities plus kit and lessons, let your kids burn off some energy in the water! More here.

3 – Hidden Histories, Albert Dock

The Guide Liverpool

Albert Dock Liverpool has developed and launched an exciting new digital heritage trail, that will take visitors on a tour of the Grade I Listed attraction and unearth fascinating secrets about the Dock that have been hidden until now. A free, two-day, family-fun event on May 20-21, will celebrate the launch with a selection of free fairground rides to entertain the children too. Find out more here.

4 – National Museums Liverpool, Across the City Region

Another recipient of a Liverpool City Region Tourism Award 2017, (Excellence in Business) National Museums Liverpool has a wealth of educational, fun and free exhibitions and sessions for children of all ages, right across the region. From the brand new Ancient Egypt gallery at World Museum, to Big Art at Walker Art Gallery, Fashion at Sudley House and Craft sessions at Maritime Museum plus loads more. Check listings here.

5 – British Music Experience, Cunard Building

Kids of all ages will find something to marvel at the British Music Experience. With more than 300 carefully selected artefacts plus a chance to knock out a tune on guitar and drums, teeny boppers will love this interactive experience which is now settled into its new home at Cunard Building, Pier Head. This Friday (19th May) there’s an Acid House Rave planned for LightNight and on Saturday BME will be celebrating the arrival of British Metal Royalty with some special artefacts to honour Iron Maiden playing the Echo Arena. More info here.

6 – Billy Elliot, The Liverpool Empire

Inspire the kids with a trip to the theatre this weekend as West End hit show, Billy Elliot The Musical comes to the Liverpool Empire until Saturday 27th May. Set against the background of the 1984/’85 miners’ strike, Billy’s journey takes him out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and whole community and changes his life forever.
