8 interesting places to escape the Autumn showers in Liverpool

The summer sunshine spoiled us rotten recently but as with all good things, it was never going to last!

Liverpool enjoyed temperatures as high as some Mediterranean destinations throughout July & August, which was officially the joint hottest summer we’ve ever had! But the inevitable Autumn showers have turned up right on cue (a relief to some) and with them, the chance to enjoy welly walks in the parks, take in a cosy film night and overdose on hot chocolate!

Don’t get left out in the rain, check out these 8 interesting places to escape the Autumn showers in Liverpool…..

1 – St John’s Beacon Viewing Gallery

Did you know that you can view the city from above with a phenomenal 360 viewing gallery experience at St John’s Beacon? Open daily between 10:30am and 5:30pm you can take the lift to the top of what is known locally as the Radio City Tower and at 400ft you might even be above the rain clouds! Tickets start at £5.50 for adults. More info here.

2 – Tate Liverpool, Albert Dock

The Guide Liverpool - Tate Liverpool - Tote Bag

There’s more to Tate Liverpool than just ground-breaking modern art. If you’re caught in a shower down at the Albert Dock, take refuge in the Tate Liverpool coffee shop, with spectacular views of the dock itself, plus a gift shop to get lost in and of course, the galleries themselves! Opening times and current exhibition info here.

3 – Liverpool Anglican Cathedral

Liverpool’s stunning Anglican Cathedral houses a modern, fully accessible, licensed mezzanine café with stunning views across the Cathedral, offering freshly baked cakes, sandwiches, hot paninis and home-made soup … and free wi-fi internet access! Who cares if it’s raining….we’ll see you there! Menu’s and more here.

4 – Roxy Ballroom, College Lane

When you can’t play out, play in! College Lane based Roxy Ball Room is dedicated to great gaming, great beer, great food and great music!  Offering up a great place to chill or get competitive, you can eat, drink and game all under one roof, Roxy Ball Room is open from 12pm daily til late. Find out more here.

5 – Red Brick Vintage Hangar, Cain’s Brewery Village

Rainy days are the best for organising a catch up, a bit of a mooch or some well deserved retail therapy and you can combine all three at the recently opened Red Brick Vintage Hangar down at the old Cain’s Brewery. Bringing together the best local traders you can have a cuppa, browse all manner of retro items, plus there’s cake, trainers, vinyl, clothing and more. Check it out here.

6 – Central Library, William Brown Street

The ground-floor café at our Central Library serves up Costa Coffee alongside four floors of knowledge, inspiration and history. If that’s not somewhere to spend an hour or so learning something new, letting the kids explore the discovery centre or even staring out into the drizzle from the fourth floor terrace with a vanilla latte….then we got nothing left! Opening hours and details of the new interactive history talks here.

7 – NYC Afternoon Tea at NYL Restaurant & Bar

Did you know there’s a little bit of New York in the heart of Liverpool? NYL Restaurant & Bar is housed in the former Royal Insurance building on North John Street and offers diners one of the most stylish places to relax in the city. The high ceilings and chic décor makes this the perfect place to enjoy a NYC inspired afternoon tea with cocktails on a rainy day. Find out more and book here.

8 – Open Eye Gallery, Mann Island

Think you know our amazing city inside and out? Take a wander around the Open Eye Gallery, Mann Island and see the city we know and love from a brand new perspective.
