8 reasons you need to visit Birkdale this Christmas
1 month ago
Birkdale is one of our region’s prettiest villages and a lovely destination for a Christmas celebration, or a spot of shopping in independent businesses.
It’s easy to reach on the train too. So here are eight reasons to visit Birkdale this Christmas.
Dine with Santa
There are still a few chances left for the family to dine with Santa at the gorgeous Penelope’s.
With a special festive menu for children and the adults, plus a visit from the main man himself, this will be a special pre-Christmas treat.
Call the restaurant on 01704 490044 to check availability as this popular event has already sold out two nights.
Dine with Santa costs £16.50 for children, with a gift from Santa included, and £35 for adults. Both menus are two courses.
A £10 per person deposit is required which will be deducted from the bill.
Penelope’s Birkdale, Rotten Row, PR8 2BZ.
Birkdale Community hub and library Christmas open morning
With stalls selling Christmas goodies, books, cakes and festive knits this will be a lovely way to get in the mood for the season.
There will also be a visit from Father Christmas for the children.
14 December, 10am-1pm in the Station Master’s House.
See the Facebook page for more.
Celebrate Christmas Eve with tapas
Looking for a relaxed dinner on Christmas Eve before the big day? Then Café Bar N’ista could be just the place for you.
They have a special tapas menu on offer at £25 per person, with sittings at 3pm, 5pm and 7pm. Pre booking is required.
You will find Café Bar N’ista at 41 Weld Road.
To find out more and book see their website.
Warm up with a special festive drink
Coast has been decorated in style for the festive season and the menu is ready for Christmas too.
We particularly like the look of the After Eight hot chocolate, or how about a gingerbread special? There are gorgeous warming soups to enjoy as well.
This is a dog friendly hangout so perfect to pop in after a chilly walk for a bite to eat or warming Christmas drink.
See more of what Coast has to offer on their Facebook page.
Christmas gifts for foodies
If you’re shopping for a foodie, then the perfect place to pick up a gift this Christmas is the Birkdale Cheese Company.
They have a range of hampers, or you could even treat someone to some cheese baubles – but to keep in the fridge rather than hang on the tree!
There is also the classic Birkdale Cheese hessian shopping bag.
You will find the shop at 42A Liverpool Road or see the website.
Pick up a classic gift
It’s great if you can shop local at this time of the year and Sally Bee Lifestyle has some gorgeous gifts to browse.
From classy candles to cosy knits for babies and handbags for the female on your Christmas list, there is a huge selection.
You will find the shop at 43 Weld Road or see the website for more.

Santa is calling into the VIP HQ for special breakfast sessions on 22, 23 and 24th December.
Ticket includes a choice of breakfast, a visit from Santa, a gift for the kids, Christmas crafting and a play session.
