8 things you can do for free this October half term in Liverpool

Half term fun needn’t break the bank, here’s some free stuff to keep the kids entertained!
October half term in Liverpool doesn’t have to cost you a mortgage payment. With half decent weather, Halloween fun and our fantabulous museums and galleries, there’s some free, crafty, fresh air fun to be had by all. Even better, get the kids involved in making a few butties and you can make a day of it!
Here’s our top 8 free activities to get involved in this October half term in Liverpool…..
1 – Make your own Lantern
There’s going to be an incredible Halloween Lantern Parade this week and you’re invited to join in! Make your own lantern or mask at one of three free workshops across the city ahead of the parade and show at Albert Dock on Sunday. Lantern making takes place on the Albert Dock, St Johns Shopping Centre and MetQuarter. Places are limited. More info is available here.
2 – Make your own Hat at Merseyside Maritime Museum
As part of the Black Salt exhibition, you’re invited to find out more about legendary black sailor, Joseph Johnson, famous for his HUGE sailors hat, and to get crafty making your own creation to wear with pride! This is a free drop in session. Details here.
3 – The Big Dig
It’s Archaeology Week at Museum of Liverpool and your little ones can get hands on with talks, tools and tours of the fascinating exhibitions on display. Family-friendly, free and fun. More info available here.Â
4 – Spooky Science at the Victoria Gallery & Museum
Cate Cropper will lead Chemistry activities at the Ashton Street Gallery on Saturday from 1pm, including making large spider webs, shrinking spiders, slime bugs, and various other horrible things for Halloween! Alex Burrows will run a wizards’ and witches’ spooky hat craft entitled the Dark Arts Hat Factory in the museum! More info here.Â
5 – Get crafty at the Bluecoat
There’s a whole week of free fun on offer at Bluecoat Chambers, in the centre of town. 6 – Tales from over the Rainbow
Museum of Liverpool invites you to meet the fabulous Lady Seanne for some tales with a twist, inspired by the Tales from the city exhibition. Totally free, no booking required and runs from 1-2pm on Tuesday 24th October. More info here.Â
7 – Kidsfest Southport
Kidsfest is a week long celebration of all things child-friendly from craft to magic to ancient Egypt and back again! There are free-drop in sessions at The Atkinson, Lord Street where your little ones can handle museum artefacts, get crafty and even join the construction club! Click here to find out more.Â
8 – Day of the Dead Halloween Special
With Halloween looming, World Museum, William Brown Street has s special Day of the Dead event taking palce on Saturday from 1pm. Death is a lively, colourful celebration in Mexico and during the celebrations Mexicans fill their cemeteries and streets with skeleton and skull decorations, bright flowers and candy, dress up and find out more here.Â
