7 ways to celebrate Lunar New Year across Liverpool City Region

Lunar New Year is a great celebration with food, music and traditional Chinese lion dances and other traditions to enjoy.
While Liverpool city centre will be the focus of much of the celebrations locally, you can still enjoy the start of the new year in style in the wider region.
Southport and Wirral both have evenings filled with great food and entertainment.
Here is our pick of seven events to celebrate the Year of the Horse.
Lings on Kings (Southport 14 February, 7pm)

Enjoyed a Chinese New Year Banquet and entertainment from the Acousticats.
The restaurant is famous for its banquets, featuring favourites like barbequed spare ribs and crispy duck, smothered with Ling’s secret recipe sauce.
Owner Ling Lam is a real legend in Southport and don’t be surprised if she takes to the mic to perform a song during the evening as well.
This is guaranteed to be a fun evening of great food and entertainment.

Celebrate Chinese New Year at the glorious restaurant that’s been serving up great food and service in the town for more than 25 years.
The Year of the Horse will be celebrated with a special five course banquet for £34.95 per person.
Entertainment will include lion dances, fireworks, a kung fu demonstration, a raffle and karaoke.

Gourmet House, Southport (15 February)

Celebrate in style with food, music and a traditional dragon dancing show at this local favourite.
There are two sittings at Gourmet House, 4pm and 6pm, so you can take the kids along for the early event and let them join in the fun.
The buffet is £23.95 for adults and £12.95 for children.

Empire (Southport 13th February)

Lunar New Year will be celebrated at the Empire with a night of dancing and culture on Friday the 13th.
The family owned restaurant will be serving a brilliant banquet, accompanied by traditional entertainment of lion dancing and a kung fu demonstration.
The lion dancers will be outside from 7pm and there will also be a raffle with prizes worth up to £150.
The celebration is £49.95 per person and if you want to be there, book soon as it is always a popular spot for the celebrations.

Peacock Inn (Ormskirk 20 & 27 February)

This Ormskirk favourite is hosting two nights to celebrate the Year of the Horse with lion dances, a DJ, karaoke and a prize draw.
Of course there will also be some of the best Chinese food on offer with a brilliant buffet meal designed to bring friends and family together for a night of celebration.
Be quick though – they get booked up every year and there are only a few tables left.

Capitol (Birkenhead 13 & 17 February)

With a kung fu show, martial arts, a lion dance and lucky draw, the Capitol has a great night on offer for Chinese New year.
The Birkenhead restaurant says this will not only be a perfectly curated meal but also a truly immersive cultural experience.
The evening costs £40 per person and is expected to be very busy to book soon or you might be disappointed.
