Plan your next 7 days in in the city with our weekly guide to what’s on in Liverpool
We’re kicking the week off loved-up, with Valentines if you’re feeling all cute with a partner or Galentines (or maybe Palentines for blokes) if you’re just out to have a good time with your mates.
Loads of places have got menus and events on all week, and you could always make it a really special one and get in the good books by treating your other half to an overnight at one of the city’s gorgeous iStay aparthotels.
If you’re looking for inspiration, here are 17 things you could be doing this week …
Tuck into the new menu at Yard & Koop where kids eat free!
A new menu’s landed at Yard & Koop which is the best news for lovers of buttermilk fried chicken. Celebrate Filthy February with new saucy wings and sides, and dirty burgers made for dipping. Kids can eat free and if you go on Monday for Valentine’s there’s £1 glasses of prosecco all night.
Coffee and a catch up at the new Bold Street Coffee in the Plaza
One Bold Street Coffee was already spoiling us, but now there’s a second just opened at the Plaza on St Paul’s Square. It’s got all the usual favourites, so endless buoys and sweet stuff, and always amazing coffees so it’s a perfect new stop for breakfast or lunch, weekdays from 7.30am to 6pm.
Monday – The La’Go Meat Market on Valentine’s night
La’Go’s celebrating 25 years in Liverpool, and just because it can it’s doing it with a night that’s made for all those swipe-weary singletons out there. Head to the Meat Market on V-night and prepare for a few close (or maybe just close enough) encounters.
Last chance to see the Earth with Gaia at St Chad’s
The Gaia Earth sculpture at St Chad’s Church in Kirkby has been out of this world, but now the six-metre wide replica is about to come down. It’s a real wow and definitely worth seeing, so if you haven’t already you’ve got until Thursday because then it’s off on its travels.
Russian State Ballet dances into the Liverpool Empire
Ballet at the Empire is always a fabulous spectacle and the Russian State Ballet is one of the world’s most renowned companies. It will be performing three different ballets over three nights – Romeo and Juliet on Monday, Snow Maiden on Tuesday and Swan Lake on Wednesday.
Take the kids to Bubbles World of Play
If you want to keep the kids properly entertained and give them a chance to run off lots of energy without having to take a chance on the weather then head to Bubbles World on Play in New Brighton. They’ll be able to have fun and explore 30 different countries and zones, including a Dinoland, along the way.
Tuck into the lunch menu at Lerpwl on the Albert Dock
Valentine’s is looking pretty stunning down at the Dock, with the beautiful lit-up tree of hearts that’s just gone up, but if you want to make it even more special then book in for lunch at Lerpwl where you’ll get to experience some of the very best seasonal food anywhere in the city.
Visit Bread Street Kitchen brought to Liverpool by Gordon Ramsey
The man himself might not be there (although that could well be a good thing if you’re easily offended), but his fantastic dishes will be. Bread Street Kitchen has just opened up in Liverpool ONE, right near John Lewis, and as well as a great a la carte, there’s a kids eat free deal on too so you could take the whole family.
Fleetwood Mac Night at 24 Kitchen Street on Thursday
Massive fans of Fleetwood Mac will be in their element this Thursday because turns out the Rumours are true – Vice City is back in the Baltic with a Fleetwood Mac Night dedicated to the band with DJs playing all the songs, for a solid 90 minutes. 11pm-3am.
The Wizard of Oz at Theatre Royal St Helens
We’re off to see the wizard! Theatre Royal St Helens is putting the classic yellow brick road story on as its half term panto until the 20th. Join Dorothy, the Tin Man, Lion and Scarecrow for a family show full of great songs, dance routines and fabulous costumes.
Ed Sheeran’s Birthday or an Abba Disco at Camp and Furnace at the weekend
Camp and Furnace has always got something on for everyone, whatever music you’re into, and that’s true this weekend because on Friday there’s a birthday party for Ed Sheeran including DJs, dancers and themed cocktails, and on Saturday it’s the Swedish foursome’s turn to unleash everyone’s Dancing Queen with an ABBA disco featuring a live ABBA tribute band and a full-on 70s and 80s disco under the glitterball.
Parr Jazz at Ma Boyle’s on Saturday
Anyone fancying a chilled-out night of live music with a bit of a Billie Holiday/Harry Connick Jnr feel should get themselves down to Ma Boyle’s on Saturday because Parrjazz is back in its regular home and this coming weekend it’s got pianist and singer Rob Stringer. The kitchen’s open til late too if you fancy a bite to eat.

The Monkey with No Bum at the Epstein on Sunday (20th)
Take your little monkeys to the Epstein for a pre-half term theatre treat – this musical, based on the original children’s book by Asa Murphy, tells the story of Charlie the Monkey who hates his bum. It’s a lovely tale with a lesson for kids about loving themselves, and it’s got loads of great singalongs including Perfect In Every Way and The Bum Bum Song.

Explore West Derby Village with a dish and a drink for every taste
For an amazing choice of food and drink places, have a look at West Derby because it’s got every cuisine you could want. There’s the three pubs around the village, plus places like 51 Mill Lane for tapas, Amo for Italian, steaks at Macello and Churrasco, Thai and Phi and Greek at Acropolis, The Cubicle wine bar plus The Book where you can catch some live music too.
