Iconic city brewer Cains launches Bottomless Brewery Tours

Depending on how many pints you can sink in an hour-and-a-half, you can now raise a glass or two (or three) to one of Liverpool’s oldest and best-loved breweries after Cains launched a Bottomless Brewery Tour at its Stanhope Street base.

For £35 a head, you can join one of Cains expert tour guides for a look behind the scenes of the historic city brewery, learning more about how the iconic brand began, and the brewing process itself.

And then, after you’ve chosen your favourites with a sample or two on the journey round, you can sit down and enjoy 90 minutes of unlimited Cains Beers along with a few nibbles which have been carefully chosen to pair with the stupendous city beverage!

The Bottomless Brewery Tour is the latest experience from Cains after the towels were taken off for a long-awaited revival in May this year.

Andrew Mikhail, owner of the Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group which has a number of venues across the Liverpool City Region, put Cains back in business, admitting he was proud to be bringing the brewery back to life.

He said then: “The beer they call ‘Liverpool in a pint’ has been missed since it disappeared almost 10 years ago.”

Cainswas founded by Irishman Robert Cain in 1850.

He began his brewing career at 24, starting a small brewery in Limekiln Lane, before moving to larger premises in Wilton Street after four years.

It was here he doubled output, staying for just five years before purchasing an existing brewing site in Stanhope Street.

Robert Cain became one of Liverpool’s most successful businessmen, using modern techniques and equipment which saw his enterprise flourish. His company, Robert Cain and Sons, owned more than 200 pubs in Liverpool, and Cain expanded the brewery several times, including between 1900–1902 when the landmark redbrick part of the brewery was constructed.

Now reopened and relaunched, there are four bars set across three floors right where the original ale was brewed.

There’s a huge glass wall so people can see the famous beer being created and, as well as Cains, there’s a selection of craft ales curated by its manager and head brewer, along with a menu of cocktails – or hoptails!

There are private tap rooms to hire where people can pull their own pints, and one hour brewery tours can take people on the journey through Robert Cain’s life and career, and get an insight into how the beer is made.

The new Bottomless Brewery Tour is an addition to the existing tour, so people can learn more about the legendary brew, before partaking in a few pints to let it all sink in.

Bottomless Beer Tours will take place every Saturday at 1pm and, with spaces limited, it’s recommended you book early.
