It’s that time of year when the lights go on and we all start getting in the Christmas spirit.
It isn’t just the city centre that offers the fuzzy festive feeling. You can enjoy a lovely Christmas lights switch on in and around the Liverpool City Region.
Here is what we know so far about the big switch on in our region’s towns and villages.
Formby
Formby Christmas lights switch on will happen on Thursday 23rd November, from 3pm to 8pm.
A great evening out for all the family, with fairground rides and entertainment on the stage from 4pm, featuring local schools singing groups and choirs.
The big switch on is at 7pm and the villages cafes, bars and restaurants will be open and adding to the Christmas spirit.
Birkdale
The ever-popular Birkdale Christmas Fayre will take place on Sunday 3rd December, from 11am-6pm.
The day will feature stalls from local traders, mulled wine and mince pies, live entertainment, a visit from Father Christmas, fairground rides and the big lights switch on.

Churchtown
Churchtown will get a special visit from Santa to switch on the lights on Sunday 26th November.
The fun starts at 12 noon with the big switch on at 5pm.

St Helens
Christmas will come alive in St Helens on Saturday 25th November with festive events taking place all day from 12.30pm before the big switch on at 5.30pm.
The lights will be switched on in Earlestown on Saturday 2nd December, with entertainment from 1pm and the town lighting up at 6pm.
Kirkby
Put Friday 24th November in your diary for the big switch on in Kirkby town centre.
The fun starts at 4pm with community acts, live performances and giveaways before the town is lit for the festive season.
Woolton Village
Billed as south Liverpool’s biggest Christmas event, you can see the Christmas lights switched on in Woolton Village on Saturday 25th November.
Entertainment and build up from 3pm, with fun for the family featuring music, food from local businesses and so much more.
Plus a visit from the main man Santa.
Moreton
The big switch on will take place at 5pm on Saturday 25th November. The fun will start from 10am with a festive market in Oakenholt Road and Christ Church Parish Centre, Santa’s grotto, live music and a bar and food.
On 9th December, the kids can have breakfast with Santa at the Sacred Heart Club, and Moreton in Bloom will host carol concerts at 3pm and 6pm on 16th December at Christ Church.

Greasby
The village will be illuminated on 19th November, with a Christmas market, live music, Storytime with Father Christmas and a lantern parade.
All are welcome to the day of fun that runs from 3pm-6pm.

West Kirby
Get along to the Concourse Plaza on Saturday 18th November from 4-6pm to see West Kirby lit up.
The children can meet Santa in his Grotto as well and enjoy fairground rides as well as food and drinks before the big switch on at 6pm.

Hoylake
The Hoylake Frost Fair and light switch on will take place on 25th November. There will be talented makers, bakers, artists, and chefs to keep you fed and watered and provide a unique shopping experience.
Get along to the Ship Inn, Market Street and The Row from 11am – 4pm to truly get into the Christmas spirit. The big Hoylake lights switch on will take place at 6pm.

Oxton
Oxton will be lit for Christmas at 3.30pm on 25th November with mulled wine, mince pies, Santa’s grotto, entertainment, and street food.
Hoole
The big lights switch on in Hoole will take place on Saturday 18th November.
The main event will be at 6pm and there will be entertainment from 5 – 9.30 pm.
Ormskirk
On Sunday 26th November, 11am-6pm the Ormskirk Christmas Lights Switch On event will see the town centre come alive with fun and free family entertainment featuring local hero and TV impressionist John Culshaw.
Indulge in some shopping with a host of fabulous street stalls offering delicious food and gifts, and visit Ormskirk’s permanent gems, the independent stores open in the town.
With parking free at Council car parks, and the train station just a stone’s throw from the magic there’s no reason to not discover Ormskirk this Christmas.
