Liverpool pubs are collecting empty Christmas chocolate tubs to recycle for Tub2Pub charity appeal

Pubs across Liverpool are collecting empty Christmas chocolate and cracker tubs to recycle for charity.
Greene King pubs are launching a Tub2Pub appeal so everyone who’s got leftover plastic tubs can drop them off and they’ll help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
It means all those Celebrations, Quality Street and Heroes empties go to a good cause instead of going to waste or hanging around the house all year!
Two pubs in the city centre are taking part in the campaign – Lime Street Central and The Pump House at the Albert Dock.
Stuart Robertson at Lime Street Central says they’ve got plenty of storage room waiting for donations, and he’s launching a leader board with a prize going to the top contributing group or one very keen chocolate lover.
“Officially Tub2Pub starts from January 1, but we’d be happy to start taking them from now because we’ve got the space to do that and I’m setting up the leader board today so we’re ready to get started.
“People can pop in with their empty tubs, hand them over to the bar staff and we’re encouraging them to champion their office or their group of friends or family and bring in as many tubs as they can.
“It’s open to anybody, it could be friends, football teams, workmates, or an extended family, have a look through your What’s App groups. Just get together as a team and when you come in we’ll take down your name, contact details, how many tubs you’ve brought in and any team name if you have one so we can include it on your total.
“It’s just a bit of fun and we thought it would be a great way of creating some competition and encouraging people to get involved.
“Whoever has the most when the collection ends on February 11, we’ll give them a £50 voucher and 10% off for the whole year for anyone in their organisation.”
Stuart says being on Lime Street means they’re really handily placed to accept donations so they’re hoping to get a big haul.
“In that week between Christmas and New Year especially, so many people will be coming into town so that’s an ideal opportunity to bring them in. If someone’s hopping off the train at Lime Street or Central, they could come in to drop their tubs off first so they don’t have to carry them round while they go shopping.
“The aim is to get as many tubs as we can in here and it would be nice to take over the pub. We’ve got lots of space so we could take thousands and then they’re collected by Greene King as part of our delivery, they get sent to a plastic recycling company and that money goes directly to Macmillan.
“It’s great for the environment and it’s a great way of raising money for charity.”
Greene King has recycled over 5,000kg of plastic, and collected almost 50,000 tubs through Tub2Pub over the past two years from pubs across the UK, raising more than £11,000 for its charity Macmillan Cancer Support.
