The Ivy to transform former Bank of England Building on Castle Street

The historic Bank of England building on Castle Street in Liverpool is set to become The Ivy, thanks to proposals by Pegasus Group.

The Ivy, renowned for its celebrity clientele in London, has its eyes set on Liverpool for its next destination. 

Approved on July 1, 2024, the plans include listed building consent, advertisement consent, and full planning permission.

The former Bank of England building is a Grade I listed architectural gem. The grandeur of the Victorian-era building, described as a “masterpiece of Victorian architecture,” adds an air of sophistication and heritage to this exciting new restaurant.

Originally designed by Charles Robert Cockerell, the neoclassical building, dating back to 1845-48, has been vacant since the 1990s.

A spokesperson for Pegasus Group said:

“The Ivy is much-loved across the UK and this new operation will further bolster the city’s burgeoning premium hospitality offering.

“We would like to thank the officers at Liverpool City Council for being pro-active both at pre-application stage and during the determination of the applications and will look upon the transformation of this building with particular interest and excitement.”
