Liverpool security firm offers free support for summer holiday clubs after Southport stabbings
5 months ago
Bosses at a Liverpool security firm have offered their support free of charge after fears sparked by the horrendous stabbings in Southport.
Napier Security Services, based in Huyton, has said it will put staff on for free at clubs who are now considering not opening because of safety risks.
It said children should be able to enjoy their summer.
Ben Moss, 37, whoâs co-owner with Thomas Doolan, also 37, says:
âTo be honest, I was watching the news and I have got a six-year-old daughter, and it shocked me to the core.
âI canât believe anyone could do that to children.
âI wouldnât want my own daughter not to be able to do all the things she wants to do during the summer and have fun in the holidays.â
Ben, from Garstang in Preston, says he and his partner got together to consider what they could do, and he says:
âWe asked what if we could offer some local places free security through the summer?
âWe didnât expect it to go as wild as it has. We have had 5,000 shares on Facebook but we will help as many people, and cover as many things, as we can.â
So far the company has agreed to cover 16 places and events, ranging from dance classes and rehearsals to football camps and a family fun day.
âThere were a lot of places that werenât going to open after whatâs happened, and obviously parents are reluctant to leave their children even though many donât have a choice â they have to work,â Ben goes on.
Around 20 door supervisors from Napier have agreed to give up their time for free, and Ben and Thomas â who has three young children of his own â have been contacted by about 15 others who have offered their services too.
âOne guy has taken a week off from his normal day job,â says Ben. âWe are used to working in bars and nightclubs, and mini festivals across the Merseyside area, so this is very different, but we canât stand back and do nothing.
âParents want to know they can leave their kids somewhere and they will have a good time and they will be safe.
âItâs horrendous whatâs happened, and we just want to do what we can.â
