Christmas
What’s on at Unity Theatre this Christmas
4 hours ago
Christmas is back at Unity as they prepare to throw open their doors for an all-new festive season of shows, performance, workshops and festive laughs.
With the return of their annual Christmas Show, an all-new festive cabaret night and a range of shows from some of Unity’s incredible partner organisations.
Unity have announced their debut, enormously entertaining and side splittingly funny Christmas Cabaret. Over 2024 Unity Theatre has established itself as one of (if not the) go-to variety night venues in the North West; with an acclaimed run of scratch nights, variety fundraisers and season launches all drawing sellout crowds from far and wide. The Unity is gearing up to finish this year, that has been studded with stunning showcases, with a snow-covered extravaganza from some of the most exciting and hilarious performers in Liverpool.
Expect to enjoy a range of outstanding performances including puppets, music, bad santas, laughs, surprises and a great night out! Tickets can be booked on the Unity site now. They are also offering a unique Christmas parties package to organisations and partners to come and enjoy the Cabaret and experience a unique Christmas night out this year.
The highlight of this run of Christmas cheer from the venue is the triumphant return of its annual Christmas performance. This year it will be Star of Wonder from international performers and award winning theatre makers, Teatro Pomodoro & Theatre Porto.
Directed by the award-winning Nina Hajiyianni, Star of Wonder, has been made with the ideas of children from local primary schools and is performed by a cast of international and learning- disabled performers (Carmen Arquelladas, Jordan Connerty, Nikki Hill, Miwa Nagai, and Simone Tani).
The show takes audiences on an adventure with three young friends, who embark on a journey (in a shopping trolley) to follow a star. They fall-out, get lost, overcome obstacles, and finally find what they are looking for in this hilarious, magical, and memorable tale of friendship.
Star of Wonder has been created with children of all ages in mind. The production has been designed to be as accessible as possible and uses clowning, physical theatre, and shadow puppetry instead of spoken word, so that children of all abilities and languages can enjoy a laugh-out-loud festive theatre experience. What’s more, all performances of Star of Wonder will take place in a relaxed, autism-friendly environment.
If you want to get hands on this festive season, Teatro Pomodoro and Splats Entertainment will be hosting a special, one-off Circus Skills workshop at Unity. Since new artistic director, Eli Randle has taken the reigns at the Unity it has been a priority of the organisation to foster the development of their creative community, young and old, in the most accessible way possible. Rounding off a successful year of non-stop workshops they welcome all to juggle, balance and spin into this festive season.
Unity will also host some beautiful festive performances from their friends and partners. Including The Little Mersey Mermaid from RAWD, one of Unity’s closest partner groups in residence, working with incredible disabled artists and young people to create stunning and heartfelt work. RAWD are back with their annual Winter performance, this year we will be taken on the tale of Ariel but Ariel isn’t your usual Mermaid. In fact, she’s not a mermaid at all! She’s just a girl with a big dream, she wants to be a scouser.
Finally, Winter Wonderland from That Theatre Group. That Theatre Group create work with and for older people living in care and this year they present a joy filled show about winters past on the Unity stage.
