Restaurant serving one of Liverpool’s top Sunday roasts is doing a Christmas Day version for home

The Liverpool restaurant serving one of the city’s favourite Sunday roasts has created a Christmas Day version for fans to cook at home.

La Bistroteca in Baltic Market has become known for its incredible roasts since chef Livia Alarcon launched there in 2023.

They sell out pretty much every week and the signature sides have really helped them stand out from the crowd.

After 18 months of growing popularity, Livia decided to come up with Bistro Bites, her Christmas present to everyone who loves her dishes.

She’s making up big gift boxes, all wrapped in ribbon and filledwith all their sought-after trimmings. They’ll be mostly part-cooked and ready to heat up on the big day, so it’s perfect for anyone who gets stressed out by all the prep and timing headaches that go into making Christmas dinner.

They’re made for 2, 4, 6 or 8 people and have smoked garlic pigs in blankets, confit garlic & thyme roasties, smoked garlic glazed carrots, and a mix of cabbage and sprouts which Livia has put her own twist on.

“We’ve elevated it by putting in some Manchego cheese, toasted almonds and honey,” she explains. “It’s something I used to cook in my first job at Salt House Tapas and it’s just such an amazing sprout dish. 

“I know sprouts are something people either love or hate but when you get the sweetness with the tang of the Manchego and the nuttiness of the almonds it’s just boss.

“We’ve also got our truffled cauliflower cheese which everyone loves, pigs in blankets with smoked garlic honey, a pouch of our homemade gravy jus, cranberry sauce, bread sauce, and carrot puree which everyone seems to go crazy for.

“The contents inside are basically all the big hitters that we do on our Sunday roast,”

Bistro Bites boxes also come with the option to add meats like a capon instead of turkey or chateaubriand that serves 2-3. 

Livia, who’s a former head chef at Maray, says the idea came from her mum, who’s in charge of cooking Christmas dinner at home.

“She came in for a roast and said it was amazing so she suggested I offered it at Christmas time. At first I wasn’t sure if people would be interested but the roasts have gone really well so I thought why not try it?

“Honestly the response we’ve had has been phenomenal, I’ve been so pleasantly surprised and really thrilled by the fact so many people have chosen to put their trust in us. 

“Obviously Christmas Day is massive, it’s an important day for people, so I love the fact that we can take the pressure off and deliver something that’s restaurant quality all in a time frame of 30-45 minutes at home.

“The regular boxes with signature sides just need re-heating really so you avoid that daunting task of getting everything cooked on time. 

“Carrots will be blanched, so they just need reheating and glazing, the cauli cheese will be trayed up ready to go, roasties will be par-cooked, pigs in blankets sealed, and the gravy and sauces are ready to heat.”

The Bistro Bites boxes are ordered through a link in La Bistroteca’s bio on socials and the website.  Livia will be at Baltic Market bright and early on Christmas Eve getting them all packed up, so they can be collected from there between 12pm and 4pm.
