Next week the city will be alight with green for the annual night walk to raise funds for people being treated for cancer.

Glow Green for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity will see around 1500 people don green T-shirts, wigs, leg warmers and head bands to head off on an 8Km route, carrying glow sticks for extra effect.

The walk, on 7 February, will take them past some of Liverpool’s most famous landmarks, starting on the historic waterfront, moving through the Royal Albert Dock, Liverpool One, past both historic cathedrals, St George’s Hall and the Town Hall as well as The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool.

It’s a chance to have fun while fundraising for one of the city’s most important charities, helping the one in two people affected by cancer in our region.

The walk takes place annually to mark World Cancer Day.

Here are five reasons why you should light up your Friday night green next week.

You get to dress up for a good cause

If you love nothing more than getting dressed up for a laugh and enjoying time with friends and family, this is the event for you.

Glow Green walkers go all out! There are wigs, glow sticks, leg warmers and more. Even better, you get to walk, not run.

You might event spot the Incredible Hulk or a green dinosaur along the way.

It’s a really fun night and expect to see some green outfits in the pubs and on the bus home as Arriva are offering walkers free travel.

You will see our city looking gorgeous in green

The Glow Green walk has grown in size and reputation over the last four years to become one of the city’s best loved outdoor events.

Some of our most famous landmarks will light up green for the night and they provide the perfect backdrop for a selfie.

The Liver Buildings on our historic waterfront, the Town Hall, St John’s Beacon, Merseyside Police Headquarters, The Wheel of Liverpool, and the Everyman Theatre are just some of the buildings that will be lighting up this year.

You can pause for thought and pay tribute to a loved one

Amid all that fun, there is time to pause for reflection and pay tribute to a loved one who is being treated for cancer, someone you might have lost, or to say thank you to the medical staff who care for patients.

The steps of the Metropolitan Cathedral will be adorned with lanterns that can be bought for ÂŁ5 and decorated before you set off on the walk.

The charity will then place them outside the landmark, creating a moving tribute to everyone involved.

You will be treated to some brilliant entertainment along the way

Music, dancing, drumming – the Glow Green night walk has it all.

Entertainment at the start line and along the route this year includes Liverpool Indie Choir, the Rock Choir, SingMe Merseyside, Make Noise, AJK Entertainment and D’Ukes of Hazzard.

You can also catch Penny Farthing Circus Acts, the giant lights of the Techno-Spartans, and get glittery with The Glitter Hub.

The night will be hosted in style by Ian Gibbons and anyone wearing a Glow Green T-shirt can get 10 per cent discount at Nova Scotia restaurant.

You will be helping raise funds for one of our most crucial local charities

There are over 100,000 people living with cancer in Merseyside and Cheshire.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre provides specialist cancer treatment for many of these people, through its unique network of care across the region, caring for a population of 2.4 million people.

Clatterbridge Cancer Charity raises funds for research into new treatments, to help the experience of patients and to fund specialist equipment like cooling caps to help prevent hair loss for patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Glow Green takes place from 6pm on Friday 7 February, starting at the Museum of Liverpool, Mann Island. Entry costs £20. Walkers leave at 7.30pm.

Event sponsors Arriva will offer free bus travel to and from the event with a day pass included in all entry pack. Q Park Liverpool One is offering a 10% discount on pre-booked spaces.
