Stanley Park Market wins prestigous award

Stanley Park Market was named Best Community Market at this year’s Great British Market Awards.

The awards, presented by the National Association of British Markets (NABMA), celebrates the dedication of staff and traders, and impact local markets have on the community.

At the ceremony, Stanley Park Market was praised for embodying ‘the spirit of the local area’ and the continued support it provides its traders with.

The market first opened in July last year, following feedback from residents, and was created through a joint effort by teams across the Council, including Markets, Local Neighbourhood Management, Parks, Communications, and ward councillors.

Since its opening, the market has more than doubled in size, from 50 stalls to over 100 each week. Local businesses have also praised the market for increasing footfall in the area on market days.

Living up to its Best Community Market name, Stanley Market has also played host to a number of community activities, including events by Everton in the Community for the community’s young people.

Councillor Harry Doyle, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture said:

“I want to offer a huge congratulations to the team behind the market for their impressive win at this year’s awards.

“Taking on resident feedback and using it to create a brand new market that has grown so much in less than a year is no small feat and is a fantastic show of co-operation across the Council.

“The market is already a vital park of the local community and is a perfect reminder that listening to our residents and working together is the key to success. It’s the perfect embodiment of community spirit.

“I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone behind the success of Stanley Park Market for their unwavering dedication and hard work.”
