Electric vehicles will take centre stage on Liverpool’s iconic waterfront next week, as the city gets ready to host its biggest ever EV showcase.

Power Up! is landing at the Museum of Liverpool on Friday 16 May, offering locals the chance to get up close to the latest electric vehicles, take test drives, and hear from industry experts about how the switch to electric is shaping the future of transport across the region.

The free event is part of Liverpool City Region’s Innovation Investment Fortnight and is being organised by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority in partnership with Liverpool City Council. Open to both individuals and businesses, it’s set to be one of the most exciting opportunities yet to explore how EVs are changing the way we move.

At the event you’ll be able to test drive some of the newest electric vehicles on the market — including the brand-new Renault 5 and the Ford Puma Gen-E. Not only that, but you’ll also be among the first in the UK to see the striking new Alpine A290 on static display.

There’ll be talks and demos running throughout the day, with experts discussing everything from public charging infrastructure to the region’s £9.6m boost from the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) funding scheme.

The day is also a chance to learn how the city region is leading the way in sustainable transport – from ambitious carbon reduction targets to nearly 700 new streetlamp chargers set to be in place by the end of this year.

Whether you’re a long-time EV driver, thinking about making the switch, or just want to know what the future looks like, this is your chance to experience the tech first-hand, ask questions, and get expert guidance.

Cllr Steve Foulkes, Chair of the Transport Committee at Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, said:

“Power Up! is a chance to show just how electric vehicles can make a difference — not just for the environment, but for our economy too. We’re proud to bring this event right to the heart of Liverpool.”

Liverpool City Council Leader, Cllr Liam Robinson, who’ll be giving the welcome address, added:

“Liverpool is leading the way on the road to net zero. We’re thrilled to support an event that puts innovation and sustainability front and centre, and shows residents how easy it is to go electric.”

The event is free to attend, but you’re encouraged to register in advance, especially if you want to book a test drive or attend one of the expert talks.
