Mann Island to host free family sports event this weekend
1 day ago

Young people across the Liverpool City Region are invited to join a free fun-filled afternoon at ‘Sports on the Dock’ taking place Sunday 13th July from 2–4pm at Mann Island – a vibrant youth event organised by Positive Pathways CIC in support of The Jonathan Nichols Award.
The waterfront celebration marks the finish line of The Big Row – an incredible 127-mile journey from Leeds to Liverpool by Jonathan Nichols’ best friends, Jonathan Holden and Terry Carroll – in memory of the inspirational local leader who passed away in 2023.
‘Sports on the Dock’ promises something for everyone: free picnic food, sporting activities to try, and the chance to meet dozens of clubs and organisations across the region helping young people get into sport – regardless of background or ability.
Young people will be able to try out Zorb Football with Diverse Sport, check out vehicles with Merseyside Police, and even witness live rescue demonstrations from Marine 1 and Merseyside Fire & Rescue. Other organisations attending include AFC Vissel, Allonby Canoe Club, The Canal Trust, and even a game of giant chess.
The event is organised by The Jonathan Nichols Award, a charity set up to honour Jonathan’s life and legacy.

Kim Nichols, Jonathan’s wife said:
“Jonathan was an extraordinary man who dedicated his life to helping young people thrive. This charity is about continuing that work – removing barriers and opening doors to sport and brighter futures.”
“We are rowing over 120 miles in four days, but finishing at Mann Island – surrounded by young people doing what Jonathan loved most – will be the moment that makes it all worth it,” added Jonathan Holden, co-rower and friend.
The event is completely free and open to all ages – simply turn up, bring your energy, and join the celebration.
Local sports clubs can still join the event – email info@positivepathways-nw.com to take part.
