The streets in Liverpool and Chester will turn green once more as hundreds of people take part in a glowing night walk to help local people with cancer.

Clatterbridge Cancer Charity’s Glow Green Night Walk has become one of the most popular events on the annual calendar.

It’s back for 2026 to celebrate its fifth birthday and is going to get even bigger with an added walk to cope with growing demand.

Glow Green Night Walk is a great way to get together with friends and family, enjoy a fun 8k route and raise much needed funds to help cancer patients.

Earlier this year more than 1,400 people turned Liverpool green for the event. City landmarks also got in on the act with buildings like St George’s Hall, St John’s Beacon and The Royal Liver Buildings lighting up green for the night.

And in 2026, for the first time, Chester will host its own Glow Green Night Walk, giving even more people the chance to take part

The two events will take place in February to mark World Cancer Day, honouring cancer patients, thanking the people who care for them and celebrating breakthroughs in life saving research taking place right here in Merseyside and Cheshire.

Registration is open now and if you sign up before the end of October you will receive a free lantern to dedicate to a loved one, a special staff member or to celebrate a life during the evening.

It will form part of the poignant lantern display that is always one of the most moving sights during this stunning event.

The Liverpool walk will take place on Friday 6 February, with Chester following on Friday 27 February.

Last year walkers raised a whopping £270,000 to help the charity make a real difference to those affected by cancer in the region.

The walk was officially started by actress and TV presenter Kym Marsh, who joined in with her family in memory of her dad David who was treated at Clatterbridge.

Kym said:

“Every single person takes part for a reason, whether it’s because they’ve had cancer or because someone they know has had cancer. My dad wanted us to support them, and support Clatterbridge, and we will continue to do that.”

Katrina Bury, Chief Executive of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, said:

“Next year will mark the fifth birthday of Glow Green Night Walk and we are so proud of each and every person who has taken part.

“To recognise the popularity of the event we are expanding into Chester, and we can’t wait to see more people join us and Glow Green for Clatterbridge in a new event.

“There is always a lot of laughter as well as the opportunity for reflection during the evening. And to see so many landmarks lit up in green in both cities in support will be very powerful.”

The evening in Liverpool starts at a specially constructed event village outside the Museum of Liverpool with live entertainment performed on stage.

Chester walkers will set off from Chester Racecourse.

There will be a chance to buy Glow Green Night Walk merchandise and stock up on refreshments before the walkers set off at 7.30pm.

Both routes will pass by some of their city’s most famous landmarks, lit up green for the event.

Walkers will be treated to a range of entertainment along the way from choirs and bands.

There will also be a chance to pause and reflect as the darkness of night becomes lit by hundreds of lanterns placed on the steps of the Metropolitan Cathedral in Liverpool and at a central point in Chester.

Glow Green Night Walk Liverpool will be sponsored by Arriva for the third time in 2026.

Richard Hoare, area director for Arriva North West and Wales said:

“It’s our great pleasure and privilege to continue our support for this fantastic event and build on our cooperation from the last two years.

“We’re always happy to support this great cause and help to raise awareness of the crucial work done by Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.

“It’s a vital Merseyside charity and it helps people across our region – including our customers and employees.

“We wish everyone taking part well and I know they’ll do the city proud by raising lots of funds to help our community.”

Katrina Bury added:

“We would like to thank Arriva for their continued support for Glow Green Night Walk which allows hundreds of people to enjoy a brilliant night while raising much needed funds for local cancer patients.”
