Liverpool gears up for ‘Super Saturday’ on November 1st
7 minutes ago
Liverpool is set for a huge ‘Super Saturday’ of events this weekend, with thousands of people expected to head into the city centre. Visitors are being urged to plan ahead, allow extra time for travel, and make use of public transport where possible.
On Saturday 1 November, (super Saturday) several major events will take place across the city throughout the day and evening, including:
- The Rugby League Ashes series game at Hill Dickinson Stadium at 2.30pm
- Gladiators Live at the M&S Bank Arena at 11.30am and 5.30pm
- River of Light along the waterfront from 5pm – 10pm
- Liverpool FC v Aston Villa at Anfield, kicking off at 8pm
Rugby League Ashes at Hill Dickinson Stadium

Hill Dickinson Stadium will host the return of the historic Rugby League Ashes series between England and Australia.
Fans are advised to leave plenty of time for their journey and use public transport where possible.
- Rail: Sandhills Station is the nearest Merseyrail stop, with extra entrances and crowd management in place. Moorfields and Bank Hall stations are also within walking distance.
- Walking, cycling and scooters: The stadium is easily reached on foot or by bike from the city centre, with cycle parking available. Scooter riders should dismount in any closed-off areas.
- Parking: Strict parking controls will be in force around the stadium. A Match Parking Zone covers a 30-minute walk radius, and permit-only parking will be enforced. There’s no matchday parking at the stadium itself, so fans should use city centre car parks or key transport hubs and connect via shuttle buses or trains.
Blue Badge holders can park within permit areas as long as their badge is clearly displayed and they don’t block access or stop in restricted zones.
More details can be found on Everton FC’s travel hub or via Merseyrail’s dedicated Rugby League Ashes travel information page.
Gladiators Live at the M&S Bank Arena

The new generation of Gladiators will take over the M&S Bank Arena with two action-packed shows at 11.30am and 5.30pm. Expect high-energy performances and all the fan-favourite events from the hit TV series.
The arena is within easy walking distance from the city centre and nearby train stations. More travel information is available on the M&S Bank Arena website.
River of Light

The city’s River of Light installations will be open from 5pm to 10pm, lighting up a 3km trail across the Royal Albert Dock, Pier Head, Exchange Flags and Liverpool ONE.
The nearest Merseyrail stations are Moorfields (Wirral and Northern Line) and James Street (Wirral Line). Liverpool Lime Street is around a 15-minute walk from the waterfront, or visitors can take the Merseyrail underground to reach the route easily.
For the latest travel information, check the Merseytravel website before setting off.
Road closures will be in place from 6pm to 10pm at Pier Head and The Royal Albert Dock (Salthouse Quay), with access for businesses, residents, workers and disabled parking only via St Nicholas Place.
Full details of the River of Light artworks, locations and FAQs can be found on the River of Light website, or by following Visit Liverpool on social media.
