The Elf on the Shelf is taking over Liverpool once again this December

Liverpool is going to host a giant game of The Elf on the Shelf this December as the city prepares for Christmas.

The 15ft Elf, a brand new one for 2025, will appear across famous city locations from 1st December until Christmas Eve. Organised by Liverpool Business Improvement District, The Elf on the Shelf will only move at night, and spend a few days in each spot so everyone has more time to enjoy the festive fun.

Katie Bentley is Liverpool BID Company’s Director of Strategic Partnerships and Communication,

“We loved how welcome Liverpool made The Elf on the Shelf last Christmas. This Christmas, we want to make it a little more theatrical and give people a greater chance to grab their Elfies and send those last few letters to Santa.”

The Elf on the Shelf will be at locations across Liverpool City Centre along with free family fun including entertainment, performances and giveaways, starting at The Plaza on 1st December before moving to The Everyman Theatre on Hope Street, then at Liverpool Waters, Citadines on Church Street, Williamson Square, Royal Albert Dock and finishing at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for Christmas Eve. In each location, The Elf on the Shelf will embark on some classic festive mischief, from Christmas jumpers to toilet paper decorations. In certain locations, she will also be collecting Christmas gifts for children at Alder Hey. You’ll be able to drop off any gifts with a full list of drop off points on the BID website below.

Katie adds:

“Christmas is such a busy time for our city, from panto to shopping. The Elf on the Shelf is a great way to bring a little fun into the bustle. Last year we had lots of children bringing their wish lists to Santa and delivering them to the Elf. We had lots of Elfies shared on our social media.”

The Elf on the Shelf is an annual festive tradition originating in a 2005 picture book, written by Carol Aebersold and her daughter Chanda Bell.

Liverpool’s The Elf on the Shelf is the creation of prop and puppet-maker Jenny Simmons, Liverpool BID Company and The Lumistella Company’s official The Elf on the Shelf teams in the UK.

The fun begins on Monday 1st December and runs until Christmas Eve.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s city centre Christmas lights will be switched on Thursday 13th November. Liverpool Business Improvement District funds 85% of the city’s Christmas lights display, which include Hope Street, through Hardman Street and to Bold Street, Church Street and side streets, Williamson Square and Lime Street, and into the Commercial Business District along Castle Street, Derby Square, Old Hall Street and St Paul’s Square.

The Church Street Christmas Tree will be installed and switched on 20 November.
