Advertorial
The British Music Experience opened in Liverpool’s Cunard Building in March 2017, and since then it’s been a major city tourist attraction while paying tribute to something so many of us love, British Music.
Although it was originally founded in London’s O2, it’s found its true home on Merseyside – and that’s just one of the reasons why Liverpool Business Improvement District Company’s named it their Business of the Month for January 2026.
Chloe Gaughan, marketing manager for Liverpool BID, said:
“We love the British Music Experience, and it’s become a real institution in Liverpool.
“It’s a place you can go to time and time again, and you’ll see or learn or do something new with each visit.
“BME drives investment into the city with tourism, and it’s a major location and charity which we’d encourage everyone to support.”
Executive Director, Liz Koravos said:
“We are delighted to be selected as Business of the Month by BID and to call Liverpool the epicentre of British popular music.
“Our visitors are international heritage music fans, domestic tourists, locals, schools and groups who often comment on our museum being the best curated music museum in the world and our crew the most welcoming.
“Thank you BID for recognising us!”

The ultimate tribute to British rock and pop
The British Music Experience is the UK’s only museum dedicated to celebrating British music, and has an incredible collection of memorabilia, stage outfits, instruments, images and footage charting the rise and influence of British pop from 1945 to the present day. You can see musical instruments played by some of the world’s biggest artists from Queen’s Roger Taylor and Marc Bolan to Joy Division’s Ian Curtis and the legendary Sex Pistols, find the original statues from the BRIT Awards, and check out the Apple Corp front door from Saville Row!
New exhibition
There’s a brand new exhibition uncovering the artwork of Arctic Monkey’s debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not. Don’t Believe The Hype is on until March 22 and goes behind the scenes of the iconic cover with unseen images and real life stories from the people who were there. For the first time, you can find out what shaped it, see the original photo that inspired it and discover unremarkable details that later took on cultural meaning.
Make your own music
The interactive studio lets you become a music legend for a day. You can learn and play a whole range of instruments from electric, acoustic and bass guitars, as well as Roland drums, synthesisers and keyboards; and you can get your voice studio ready in the vocal booth which features 28 iconic tracks and professional vocal coach Jennifer John ready to guide you through techniques to get the best sound out of you.
Dance, dance, dance
In the Dance The Decades Experience BME’s virtual teacher is on hand to teach you the moves that ruled the dance floors of the past – before you strut your stuff and try it out for yourself.
Remember when Ginger Spice wore THAT frock
Outfits can define an era and shine a spotlight on a star, and the British Music Experience has some of the most iconic and flamboyant ones there are, from mega musicians like Mick Jagger, Freddie Mercury and Dusty Springfield, to Romantic idol Adam Ant and 90s’ ‘Girl Power’ pioneers, The Spice Girls.
Star Café & Bar
You don’t even have to go into the BME to enjoy a bite to eat or drink in its café or bar, it’s open to the public. So if you’re anywhere near the Pier Head why not grab a coffee and cake, a cool drink, or a tasty toastie; or treat yourself to a pint. The Star Café & Bar’s host to regular events from the monthly BME Pop Quiz to book launches, Q&As and acoustic performances.
Stop at the store
The Merch Store is open daily selling band t-shirts, books, vinyl and memorabilia, alongside items from temporary exhibitions past and present.
And, just to add – BME offers educational workshops and tours for schoolchildren.
