Family pay tribute to woman who died following road traffic collision in Walton

The family of a lady who died following a fatal collision in Walton yesterday morning, Wednesday 11 February, have paid tribute to her, naming her as Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Goodall.

The tribute reads:

“We are heartbroken to share the passing of Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Goodall (nee Orr) beloved wife and mother and nana.

“She was the centre of our family—our source of strength, kindness, and unconditional love. She had a beautiful way of lighting up every room she entered. Her warmth, radiant smile, and gentle, but fierce spirit made others feel instantly at ease, and her presence alone brought comfort and joy.

“As a wife, she was a true partner and best friend, offering constant support, patience, and devotion. As a mum and nana, she gave endlessly of herself, guiding us with wisdom, compassion, and unwavering encouragement.

“She taught us the value of kindness, resilience, and putting family first. Anyone who had the privilege of meeting her was touched by her genuine love and kindness. She had a rare gift for making people feel seen, valued, and deeply cared for.

“While our hearts are heavy, we are deeply grateful for the time we had with her and for the countless memories that will continue to bring us comfort. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on in our family and in all those whose lives she touched.

“We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult time as we grieve and begin to heal. We are thankful for the outpouring of support and prayers, which mean more to us than words can express.”

A 62-year-old man from Accrington in Lancashire, who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, has been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.

The road was closed for collision investigation work and has since reopened.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, Lead Investigating Officer from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) said:

“My thoughts are with Elizabeth’s family at this awful time and our priority is to get answers for them.  Although someone was arrested, this investigation remains in the early stages and I appeal to anyone with information to come forward and help us establish the full circumstances of this incident.

“I am keen to speak to anyone who was travelling on Walton Lane, near to Walton Village, at around 10.30am who witnessed what happened and who has yet to speak to my team, to please get in touch. Additionally, if your vehicle is fitted with front or rear dash cameras, then please check to see if it has captured anything that you may be unaware of.  This could prove to be important to our enquiries.

“In addition I appeal to the drivers of other HGV’s who I know were in the area at the time to have their companies urgently review their onboard CCTV systems and get in touch with us.

“I give my sincere thanks to those members of the public who stopped at the scene and assisted where they could.  I appreciate that this was a traumatic incident and your help is greatly appreciated.”
