Wongs Jewellers and Derek’s team up for Chinese New Year sandwich collaboration
3 hours ago
Two well-known independent Liverpool businesses are joining forces this February to celebrate Chinese New Year with a limited-edition sandwich inspired by bold Asian flavours and creative Scouse cooking.
Launching on 17 February, the collaboration introduces the Mr Wong sandwich, available for a limited time until 3 March. The special features crispy ginger and garlic chicken tossed in chilli oil and coated in a sticky orange glaze, served with pickled daikon, red onion and shredded lettuce. It is also available with a side of traditional siu mai, creating a celebratory fusion dish inspired by the Year of the Horse.

The partnership brings together Wongs Jewellers, a long-established name in Liverpool’s jewellery scene, and Derek’s, a popular sandwich spot known for inventive menus and a loyal customer base. A teaser video shared online has already generated strong support and excitement from customers across Liverpool.
Cynthia Cartwright, Commercial Director at Wongs Jewellers, said Chinese New Year is an important celebration for the business and the collaboration offered a chance to mark the occasion in a fun, community-focused way. She said the Mr Wong sandwich captures the spirit of the celebration and brings people together through food.

Ethan, founder of Derek’s, said partnering with a Liverpool institution like Wongs has been a privilege and described the experience of working on the project as inspiring for a growing independent business.
To celebrate the launch, customers will also be able to enter a competition to win a prize bundle including a bespoke pendant from Wongs Jewellers and Derek’s merchandise. Entry details will be available in store and on both brands’ social media channels.
The Mr Wong sandwich will be available for a limited time only from 17 February to 3 March.
