Vetch is reopening its doors today (20 May) following a small fire that temporarily closed the venue last week.

The incident occurred at 5pm on Tuesday, 12th May, while the restaurant was closed. The fire started in the bar area and was swiftly dealt with by Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, who respondedpromptly after the alarm systems activated. Co-owners Dan McGeorge and Georgia were thankful that no one was present at the time and that the building’s alarm systems performed exactly as they should.

The restaurant sustained some internal damage, primarily smoke damage to the walls, along with work to the flooring to ensure no further risk remained. In the days since, the team has worked tirelessly, boosted by lots of expressions of support from friends, family, colleagues and loyal customers all willing the team along to get Vetch back to its best ahead of reopening.

Guests with existing reservations during the closure period were contacted directly to reschedule their bookings as soon as possible, and all have been really supportive of the team.

Dan McGeorge, chef and co-owner of Vetch, said:

“It’s been a week we’d rather forget, but honestly, what’s stayed with us is just how many people showed up for us, friends, family, our team, and customers who’ve been checking in every day. That means everything. We’re incredibly relieved no one was hurt, and we’re very proud of how quickly we’ve been able to get the restaurant back to where it needs to be. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back through the doors on Wednesday.”

To mark the reopening, Dan has created a new snack for the menu, which has a little BBQ twist: Seaweed confit Jersey Royal (then Barbecued), truffle soured cream, chive and fresh summer truffle, inspired by the resilience of the team in the past week and the ingredients and flavours that define Vetch’s style of cooking.

Vetch, which has gained wide recognition since opening for its creative, ingredient-led cooking, reopens for service on Wednesday, 20th May.
