Local volunteers wanted for The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale

Sefton residents can be a part of a massive international sporting event when The 154th Open arrives at Royal Birkdale.

The Open Host Team is looking for welcoming and enthusiastic volunteers to assist during the tournament, which runs from July 12 to July 19, 2026. These volunteers will play a crucial role in greeting thousands of golf fans, ensuring every visitor enjoys a vibrant, positive, and unforgettable week.

As an Open Host, you will guide spectators, share your insider local knowledge, and help manage the flow of crowds at key spots. All roles are positioned at off-course locations, such as train and bus stations, Park & Ride facilities, main walking routes, and course entry points.

What the role involves:

Greeting spectators and visitors with a warm welcome
Offering directions and helpful event information
Sharing local insights and tournament details
Directing the flow of people at transport hubs and gates
Serving as a friendly, helpful, and visible guide

To apply, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Be at least 18 years old
Be approachable, friendly, and comfortable talking to the public
Be free to volunteer between July 12 and July 19, 2026
Be able to travel to your designated volunteer spot
Be ready to participate in pre-event training sessions
Be available for shifts lasting up to six hours
