Award winning musical Chicago announces Liverpool return for 2027

One of the world’s most celebrated musicals is heading back to Liverpool, with Chicago confirmed as part of its 2027 UK and Ireland tour.

The multi award winning production will return to the Liverpool Empire in March 2027, with tickets going on general sale on Friday 19 June at 10am.

Set against the glamour and scandal of the 1920s, Chicago tells the story of Roxie Hart, a nightclub dancer and housewife who finds herself at the centre of a sensational murder case. Determined to avoid conviction, she turns to one of the city’s most famous lawyers in a bid to win over the media and public opinion.

Packed with iconic musical numbers including All That Jazz, Cell Block Tango and Razzle Dazzle, the show has become one of the most successful musicals of all time.

Created by John Kander, Fred Ebb and legendary choreographer Bob Fosse, Chicago has won six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards and a Grammy Award. It also holds the record as the longest running American musical in both Broadway and West End history.

Since its Broadway revival opened in New York in 1996, Chicago has been performed in 38 countries and translated into multiple languages. The production has been seen by an estimated 35 million people worldwide and has played more than 36,000 performances across the globe.

Based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, the musical features a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.

With its mix of dazzling choreography, unforgettable songs and timeless storytelling, Chicago continues to captivate audiences around the world and Liverpool theatre fans will soon have the chance to see it back on stage in the city.

Tickets go on general sale from 10am on Friday 19 June.
