Channel 4 Documentary Commissioned about Chef Gary Usher

Natural Selection Design make their Directorial Debut on Channel 4 this Summer with Chef Gary Usher taking the starring role.
Natural Selection Design are a Merseyside based creative agency headed up by Dan Burns; and this September they make their directorial debut on Channel 4. Natural Selection have been working with chef Gary Usher for over 8 years.Â
Chef Gary Usher, founded the award-winning Elite Bistro group in 2011, starting Sticky Walnut in Hoole; just outside of Chester. Last year Natural Selection followed Gary around for over 6 months documenting a major project.Â
Gary Usher is The Rebel Chef, the most off the wall chef in the industry, he has been spending the last 5 years smashing crowdfunding records in the restaurant world and opening 6 successful bistros. This September his first documentary is set to hit Channel 4. The hour long special will show his mission to open a new restaurant in one of Merseyside’s most neglected towns and bring bistro food to the people of Prescot. Â
Prescot hasn’t seen a new restaurant in over 30 years, Gary’s biggest challenge isn’t getting the locals to like the food, but to try the food at all.
Natural Selection captured the whole journey including the night the crowdfunding project launched; Gary needs £50,000 to create his vision of a French style bistro, in the former site of a BetFred betting shop. Gary’s mission was to help bring a small town to life and bring more footfall to the area. Will he smash his crowdfunding target and raise the huge sum in just 24 hours?

Everyone involved from the local characters to Gary’s team helped make the documentary what it is…a truthful and raw depiction of what is needed to launch a restaurant.” The documentary airs on Thursday 19th September at 10pm, directed and filmed by Natural Selection Design Agency. Dan continues “This restaurant isn’t on the busy street of Oxford Street, London, but in a little humble (and slightly forgotten) town of Prescot in Liverpool. That was the challenge for the restaurant…will it work?”
