LIMF 2019: All the Highlights from an epic weekend of music in Sefton Park

What an incredible weekend we had in Sefton Park as LIMF returned with it’s biggest line up to date.

From the moment the gates opened on Saturday morning until the very last bars of We Are Family rang out across the park, LIMF 2019 blew us away.

4 stages, more than 70 acts including local emerging talent and international icons and DJ’s played sets that the festival goers will remember for a life time. The weather gave us everything but nothing could dampen the crowds spirits. Picnic blankets, deck chairs, mates shoulders, all were utilised as more than 20 hours worth of amazing music made us sing, dance and throw our hands up in the air.

Saturday was a sell out by mid afternoon. It’s no surprise when the line up included the likes of Sigma, Nile Rodgers and Chic, Ella Eyre, YXNG Bane, Maverick Sabre and scouse favourites Anton Powers and MiC Lowry. With our Jay hosting and BBC 1Xtra’s Melody Kane on the decks, the party was in full swing from early doors.

The City of Music stage paid tribute to Zanzibar’s Tony Butler with The Tea Street Band and The Sundowners performing live with Joe Slater, Bill Nickson and more joining the bill. DJ’s lined up to spin some records at the Shubz DJ Tent and True School Club House. Soul II Soul’s Jazzie B, Bobbito Garcia and Norman Jay MBE had the crowds bouncing with old favourites and new mixes.

Families at LIMF 2019 got their own slice of the disco action with their own retro time machine disco caravan plus badge making with Tate Liverpool and of course the all important festival face painting.

The main talking point of the day was always going to be Saturday headline act, Nile Rodgers and his band Chic. In an interview with our Jay, Nile explained:” For us Americans, Liverpool is legendary and sacred, like Memphis” as if we could love him any more!

The set went on to thrill with every imaginable disco banger you could think of and a whole host of backstage staff, fans, dancers and our Jay on stage by the end. Unforgettable Good Times at LIMF 2019.

MORE:

If all that wasn’t enough, the sun was shining for day two of LIMF 2019 as Kyami opened the festival followed by brilliant performances from LIMF Academy Alumni SG Lewis, plus Samm Henshaw, Grace Carter and NAO. – who shared the love with white roses for the crowd.

The City of Music Stage offered up brand new music collabs from the likes of Sub Blue and Deliah, Gazelle and New Junior and more. While headline act PizzaGirl picked up the LIMF Academy Jan McNicholl Award for showing the most potential. An exciting 2019 lies ahead for him.

Kenny Dope and Manny Norte led the big beats offering on the decks before the undisputed heavy weights of Hip Hop, De La Soul took to the Central Stage and the crowds LOVED it! Scouse Boxer Tony Bellew and his son carter joined Jay on stage to introduce the band.

Shortly after, with the crowds still bouncing, the build up to the Sunday headline act, Disco Classical with special guest Sister Sledge featuring Kathy Sledge, began.

Having interviewed Kathy at the Disco Classical rehearsals last month, we knew the crowds were in for a hell of a show and it far exceeded our expectations! Isn’t it crazy how everyone knows the words to these incredible disco tracks that were released more than 40 years ago! Mass dance-athons, sing alongs and dreams came true as one lucky scouser was invited up on stage to sing with Kathy and the girls! Amazing stuff!

We want to hear your favourite bits and see your pics and videos from an incredible LIMF 2019 at Sefton Park. KEep tagging us in @TheGuideLpool and we’ll share the best on our socials.

Our thanks and congratulations to everyone at Culture Liverpool and beyond for organising yet another amazing festival for all to enjoy. Bring on 2020!
