What are the big fashion predictions for Ladies Day at Aintree 2019?
Still fretting over what to wear to stand out from the crowd at Ladies Day this year? We have the big predictions for the most stylish day in Liverpool’s calendar.
This year we have teamed up with Aintree Racecourse for the Ladies Day Style Award. One stylish race-goer will win a year’s supply of clothes from fashion partner Chi Chi London and a brand new Range Rover Evoke courtesy of Hatfields Landrover.
To book your tickets for Ladies Day head to the Jockey Club website here.
It’s always tricky to know exactly what look will put you ahead of the field, but take a tip from the experts and dare to go bold with some straight-off-the-runway inspired pieces.
Most of the designer themes will make it onto the high street in much cheaper versions so you don’t have to spend a fortune to create an impressive replica.
Just take their lead and then add a twist to suit your own shape and budget.
Liverpool fashion consultant and stylist Joanne Watkinson has five top predictions to give you a steer.
Be more beigeÂ
Nude as a colour is no longer … once the default name for a shade of peachy beige, finally diversity has won out, and who even has skin the colour of Kate Middleton’s LK Bennett court shoes? Neutrals are the new trend, and Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty palettes describe the shades in the most delicious way from linen to caramel, cocoa to espresso.Â
I’ve spotted a lot of cream, beige and coffee coloured separates around, and that is the perfect palette for Ladies Day.Â
Suits youÂ
I expect we will see plenty of tailoring at Ladies Day this year, with more and more women choosing a trouser suit over a dress. The rules are, there are no rules … co-ordinating separates, matching suits, slim leg, wide leg, cropped trousers, there is a shape for all body shapes.
As for colour, monochrome always works but I expect to see some pale pinks this year. The Bianca Suit from Hebe Studio would be the ideal.
Get ahead
If you haven’t already spotted this trend you will very soon – headbands and hair accessories are back in a big way and they are the perfect accessory to make a simple outfit stand out.Â
From Prada-inspired headbands to jewelled barrettes and bows, hair adornments should outshine the fascinator at this year’s Grand National Festival – see Margot Tenenbaum (Gwyneth in the Royal Tenenbaums) for the hair slide how-to.Â
Pretty in print
Prints are a great way to do colour on Ladies Day and they were everywhere on the SS19 runways from Burberry to Dolce & Gabbana.Â
Polka dots and florals are always popular but am hoping the ladies go bold this year. Dalmatian print is a fun alternative to leopard and mixing your prints ensures your look is modern. Look to Rixo for inspiration.Â
That extra half inchÂ
Long dresses often get a bad rap at Ladies Day, but I love floor length skirts and dresses. Dior showed their Cruise collection with tuxedo jackets paired over long tulle skirts which can be replicated really easily.Â
Petite ladies could play with proportions in another way with the asymmetric Taba top by Kirsty Doyle, the sequin covered cape style tops are perfect over slim fitting dresses. I imagine we’ll see a lot of these clever upper arm covering devices worn on Ladies Day.Â
