We remember the 96 on the 29th anniversary of Hillsborough
7 years ago
Today the city will fall silent in memory of the 96 who lost their lives at Hillsborough.
At 3:06pm, the exact time the fateful match was stopped, the city, it’s people, it’s buildings and public spaces will fall silent for a minute in memory of those who died in the Hillsborough disaster and out of respect for the families, friends and survivors who have battled on for justice.
Whether you’re a Scouser or visiting the city for the day, we’ve no doubt that you’ll show your support and stop for a moment of quiet contemplation, wherever you are. Civic buildings, Mersey Ferries, Museums, Galleries and Liverpool ONE will all fall silent while a short service of thanksgiving will take place at the Metropolitan Cathedral at 2:45pm for those who want to give prayers for the victims and families.
Here at The Guide Liverpool we’ve interviewed members of the Hillsborough Family Support Group and were present at St George’s Hall on the day that justice prevailed, finally in 2016. Like most Scousers, we’ll never forget the 96, nor the torment and struggle their families and friends faced for too long, and we will continue to support the legacy that reaches across the local communities, helping those who need it most.
We’re sending or thoughts, best wishes and have nothing but the utmost respect to the Hillsborough Families Support Group and those affected by the tragedy.
You can lend your support to the ongoing legacy of the 96 by joining in the Run for The 96 at Stanley Park on Saturday 12th May 2018. Former red, Jamie Carragher will join the thousands of red and blue shirts making their way around the 5k course, raising money for nominated charities, Everton in the Community, 23 Foundation and Stanley Park CIC.
