Mad Pride is back bigger and better for 2018!

Liverpool Mental Health Consortium presents Liverpool Mad Pride 2018 – back for its third year. Bigger, better and more bonkers than ever, a thrilling line-up of circus-themed performances comes to District on Saturday 21st April.

A jam-packed programme of mirth and mayhem will kick off with Liverpool Samba School.Throughout the afternoon and evening, live music will be peppered with astounding burlesque & cabaret performances, clowns, pirates and belly-dancers. The musical line-up includes string band Loose Moose, uke ensemble the Strumbrellas, freak folk outfit Mamatung, and headliners from the US – Chanel and the Circus.

The audience will be treated to spectacular displays from Freefall Aerial Circus; Secret Circus have curated performances from Claire De Lunacy, Jollyboat, Rowena Gander, Ruby Dagger, Cheri Whambam & Zaina Zuzu, and belly dancing from T Maxwell & H Rawlinson. Teatro Pomodoro (Cabaret from the Shadows) presents an extract from Farrucchio Peru, a one-man variety show of absurdity and, for want of a better word, Madness.

The Strumbrellas

There’s a circus-themed fancy-dress competition and organisers are encouraging ring masters, lion tamers and bearded ladies to turn up in their droves!

Hula-hoop and poi-making workshops will spill into the venue’s beautiful outdoor area, Yard, so there will be no stopping you from honing your skills instantly with your new hula hoop!

The event will culminate in a drumming performance from Beat It! Katumba &, at 9pm, there will be a circus-themed parade, led by Bring the Fire project & featuring drumming, lanterns, unicycles and all manner of magical creatures.

Leebo Luby

Performers, the Strumbrellas say: ‘We are just a group of friends strumming ukes for fun. We’re looking forward with anticipation to playing at Mad Pride. We fully support the event as it helps to reduce the stigma around those experiencing mental distress. We find that being creative and banging out a tune helps us relieve our own stress.’

Mad Pride is free, all are welcome – You’d be mad not to join in!
